On November 18th 2014, we announced our plans to replace the Nokia Store with Opera Mobile Store as the default app store for Nokia feature phones, Symbian and Nokia X smartphones.
This transition will help our developer community maintain a vital connection to millions of people who use classic Nokia phones, through a trusted source for apps, games, and content.
Today we’d like to inform you that the Publish site is now open for you to migrate your applications to Opera.
Four steps to migrate your applications to the Opera Mobile Store
Publishers must provide their consent to have their apps transferred from the Nokia Store to the Opera Mobile Store. Any apps not specifically chosen for migration will not be moved across. To migrate your apps, please complete the following steps:
- On the Nokia Publish site, provide your consent to have your apps migrated to Opera
- Confirm your publisher information
- Using the pre-selected list, check and confirm which apps you would like to migrate
- Following your submission, you will receive an email from Opera. Follow the instructions in that email to visit the Opera Publisher Portal, and accept the Terms and Conditions to complete the process.
Once you have completed all four steps above, you will receive a confirmation email from Opera and your apps will be published in the Opera Mobile Store.
Remember, you will only have one opportunity to migrate the apps you wish to transfer from Nokia Publish to the Opera Mobile Store. Once you have completed the one-time process, you will not be able to transfer any more apps from the Nokia Publish site.
We recommend you publish all apps approximately 10 days prior to undertaking migration to allow for quality and assurance. If you would like to publish an app after the one-time migration, you will need to visit the Opera Mobile Store to publish the app with Opera.
Key Dates
- January 26th: Nokia Publish is open for apps migration to Opera.
- February 18th: App intake to the Nokia Store ends. Publishers can no longer publish new or updated apps to the Nokia Store after this date. We recommend you publish all apps prior to migration.
- March 15th: App migration ends. You must provide your consent and confirmation to migrate apps by March 15th, otherwise they will not be migrated to the Opera Mobile Store.
Opera will continue to provide signing for your Series 40 and Java applications if the certificate is due to expire within six months.
Please note that there is no change for Symbian and Series 60 apps; they will not be re-signed by Opera, as noted in previously communicated plans for the Symbian platform. You are welcome to migrate Symbian apps, but signing continues to remain unsupported.
Tapping the Store icon on a device will continue to be the pathway into the Store. Consumers will simply be re-directed to the Opera Mobile Store when they select the Store icon on their devices. Deployment of re-direction starts at the beginning of February and concludes in March. Consumers are already being notified of the upcoming transition through a message appearing on the Nokia Store client.
Consumers will be able to purchase content from the Nokia Store until they have been migrated to Opera Mobile Store or until March 31st, whichever is first. In-app billing transactions will cease on March 31st. However, operator billing for consumers will also be winding down in various global locations from January through March, according to the schedule agreed with the operators. More information can be found here.
We hope this information makes your transition to the Opera Mobile Store as seamless as possible.
