A ‘Killer’ Wearable from Neptune is Coming Soon

January 7, 2015 By GISuser

Neptune, a Canadian company that designs and develops consumer electronics, today announced that a new revolutionary wearable device will be unveiled soon. The product will be a successor to Pine, the world’s first standalone smartwatch that had raised more than $800,000 on Kickstarter in November 2013.
“Wearables in general have so far struggled to achieve mass appeal, largely because there hasn’t really been any clear value propositions offered that are actually meaningful for the general user. Most devices on the landscape today are limited to very basic applications like fitness tracking or receiving notifications from your phone.” said Simon Tian, Neptune’s CEO. “We at Neptune believe that we’ve come up with a device – a ‘killer’ wearable – that provides genuine and unique benefits for the average user. It has the potential to finally bring the product category to the mainstream.”

Neptune’s first product, Pine, was the world’s first standalone smartwatch. Pine was announced through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in November 2013. Within a single day, the campaign reached its funding goal of $100,000, ultimately raising over $800,000 in total over the course of a month. Shipments started in Summer of 2014, and all orders were fulfilled successfully by the end of the year.

“This was however only an experiment for us; a ‘transitional’ product towards a much larger vision,” said Simon. “We at Neptune are all very excited to unveil this upcoming revolutionary product soon.”
