Nogales, Arizona, Selects Accela Cloud for One Stop Shop e-Plan Review and Permitting

October 17, 2012 By Editor

Arizona import hub on Mexican border to automate land management, permitting, and code enforcement by deploying Accela Automation in the Accela Cloud

NOGALES, Ariz., October 17, 2012 – Accela, Inc. today announced the City of Nogales, Ariz., selected Accela Automation® enterprise software, deployed in the Accela Cloud by monthly subscription. The “Software as a Service” model (SaaS) will enable Arizona’s largest international border town with a population of 21,000 to make a significant transition from outdated PTWin paper-based processes to a web-based service delivery model for more efficient land management, permitting, and code enforcement.

Nogales is the county seat of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. Due to its location on the border and its four major ports of entry, Nogales funnels $26 billion worth of international trade into Arizona and the United States a year in fresh produce and manufactured goods from Mexico and the world. This trade helps support thousands of jobs and the overall economies in both the American and Mexican towns of Nogales and throughout Arizona and the Mexican state of Sonora.

In addition to using enterprise-level Accela Automation, Nogales Planning, Zoning, and Building Department will benefit from Accela Citizen Access™, a user-friendly web portal that gives end users an intuitive interface for initiating and tracking service requests. The solution will extend to iOS, Android, and Windows mobile tablets and smartphones, giving building inspectors and field agents access to documents in real-time and the ability to update project files using Accela Mobile™. Agency personnel will also be able to view geospatial details of job sites using Esri ArcGIS Online and agency ArcGIS integration.

Hector Tapia, Nogales Assistant Public Works Director – Planning & Zoning/ Building, had already been familiar with Accela Automation and its features, which were being used to improve government workflow in a neighboring Arizona city. When he learned of the affordability of Accela Automation in the Accela Cloud by subscription, he jumped at the chance to select the system for Nogales.

"As a small city with limited budget resources but with a very active international port of entry and trade with Mexico, Nogales selected Accela Automation Cloud environment as an ideal solution for the City’s development process, eliminating the need for purchasing new computer hardware, software, or servers in our IT Department," commented Tapia.

He added, "The goal of Nogales is to be a ‘One Stop Shop’ for development plan review and permitting processes in the Accela Automation Cloud environment that addresses customer concerns, corrects inefficiencies in the overall workflow, and provides the development community and citizens access to permit status and development information from anywhere at any time.”

Implementation of Accela Automation in Nogales will be completed by Accela licensed partner, Kings Canyon Technology, a global management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company whose staff expertise includes systems development and implementation, workflow, system support, interface development, and function integration. Accela Automation in Nogales is expected to go live before the end of the year.
