Tech NewsBits – An open data date with Tony Clement #openGov

April 5, 2013 By Editor

An interesting story from the Edmonton Journal…

Open data is a world-wide movement, says Clement, and it’s important that Canada “seize the opportunity” to become a world leader in making data available to entrepreneurs and researchers.

“That’s why we’ve put 273,000 data sets online already. Just in terms of volume, we’re doing extremely well. And we’re making the data manipulable, in a very positive sense.”

Already, says Clement, the government has streamlined some of its licensing agreements, to make it less cumbersome for businesses to repurpose government data. And later this spring, he says, the government will relaunch its open data website, to include more free information, and to make it easier to use.

This information doesn’t belong to the Conservative government, or any government. It belongs to all Canadians
