Jacksonville Continues to Look to Innovyze for Advanced Smart Water Management Solutions

Broomfield, Colorado, USA, May 7, 2013 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced that JEA (formerly Jacksonville Electric Authority), the utility serving Florida’s largest city, has selected IWLive advanced real time forecasting and operational management software. The decision allows JEA to operate its complex water distribution system at the very highest standard by making powerful modeling technology instantly accessible to its control room operators.

JEA’s water system consists of 135 artesian wells delivering more than 120 million gallons of water a day through 36 treatment plants and 4,619 miles of water lines. JEA also has a reclaimed water system to serve non-potable uses comprising 157 miles of pipe and delivering 13 million gallons of reclaimed water a day.

“We continue to turn to Innovyze for its expertise in developing, deploying and supporting cutting edge water distribution technology,” said Travis Crane, JEA Water Wastewater Reliability Specialist. “We are excited to add IWLive to our smart water software toolkit and look forward to fully leveraging this technology to optimize our operations and deliver our standard of excellent service to our customers.”

IWLive gives water utility operators continuous real-time insights on their network performance. A constant stream of data (e.g. at 15, 30 or 60 minute intervals) coupled with predictive modeling capabilities enables them to quickly assess events as they occur, identify potential problems before they reach a critical level, respond decisively to operational challenges, and minimize downstream effects. For example, operators can analyze the impact of a predicted low storage tank level on network hydraulics and pinpoint all customers who will be negatively affected by low pressures. Alternative operating scenarios can then be quickly and accurately analyzed and compared to determine their levels of improvement and associated costs, and the most appropriate can be selected and quickly acted upon.

Operators can also assess the effects of main breaks; pump, valve and reservoir shutdowns; other scheduled maintenance or repair; and any additional planned/unplanned incidents, responding in a timely manner with appropriate countermeasures. They can also predict key network parameters (flows, pressures, etc.) where data loggers are unavailable and forecast system performance should SCADA feeds go offline. Using IWLive real-time network modeling, operators can progress from purely reactive to more proactive network management. This can ultimately result in significantly more efficient and economical network operations, greater network integrity, and improved network maintenance and customer service.

“Innovyze continues to expand and advance its product line to meet the changing needs of utilities large and small,” said J. Erick Heath, P.E., Innovyze Vice President, Director of Americas Operations. “JEA’s continued support of Innovyze products gives us powerful confirmation that our products are performing at a high level, helping engineers and system operators overcome the ever-increasing pressure to meet customer demand and optimize operations.”
