Metaio Announces 50k Developers, Updates to Augmented Reality platform and International Developer Contests

San Francisco & Munich – 3 June 2013: Metaio, the world leader in augmented reality (AR) software and solutions today announces its 50,000 developer benchmark, in time for updates to the Metaio SDK and Metaio Creator and the beginning of the first-ever Metaio International Developer Contests.

Since releasing the Metaio SDK less than two years ago to the development community, Metaio is proud to have 50,000 developers working on its platform, with more than 1000 applications across enterprise, industrial, publishing and retail published. To commemorate this remarkable milestone, Metaio will today release a new “AR” standard logo to the community and encourage developers to join in the first-ever Metaio International Developer Contests.

Both the Metaio SDK and Metaio Creator have been updated to support better and more efficient content management, application creation and game development, coinciding perfectly with the Developer Contests, which feature categories for content creation and app & game development. Grand Prize winners will receive professional software licenses and will be flown to Munich to present their winning entries at InsideAR 2013 among thought leaders and luminaries of the AR industry.

“Metaio has been working with Augmented Reality for over 10 years, and in that time we’ve grown an amazing community of developers,” said CEO Thomas Alt. “It’s important that we continue to innovate and offer the most advanced AR software – not just for the devices of today but the wearable computing and mobile devices of tomorrow, powered by the Metaio AREngine.”

Yet another milestone for 2013, Metaio was the first company to release a chipset design intended to accelerate augmented reality on silicon platforms, part of its initiative to see AR on every smartphone by 2014. Metaio plans to continue to work closely with major OEMs and hardware manufactures to optimize its SDK at the silicon level for major platforms and future devices.

Developers can download the newest version of the Metaio SDK and Metaio Creator for free at http://metaio.com/products/sdk & http://metaio.com/products/Creator.

Developers and designers can learn more and submit their intent to compete in the first-ever Metaio International Developers Contest at http://dev.metaio.com/contests.
