New opportunity for application developers to use Very High-Resolution satellite imagery

August 5, 2013 By Editor

The Challenge seeks to create a platform for new application ideas for 50 cm optical satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe’s WorldView-2 satellite. It is part of the Copernicus Master’s, the European Earth Monitoring competition which awards prizes for innovative solutions for business and society based on Earth Observation data.

Submissions to the European Space Imaging High-Res Challenge are open for people to put in application ideas which are easily implementable, sustainable, cut costs and create efficiencies using Very High-Resolution (VHR) satellite data. The winner of the Challenge will receive up to €20,000 of imagery data to support the realization of their idea.

Developing new applications for Very High-Resolution (VHR) satellite data is a continuing aim of satellite imagery providers, not only because the data can be processed to extract useful information but also because new technologies allow for new applications and uses of these data sets.

Last year’s Challenge winner, Hans Van ‘t Woud, Cerberus-Blackshore, suggests for anyone thinking of entering this year’s competition “focus on one business case so that you can tell a clear story. Also, the idea has to be commercially viable so you need to know how you want to generate revenue and present a good financial plan”.

Deadline for entries is September 15. Further information is available at www.eusi.copernicus-masters.com/
