Info-Tech Research Group Singles Out Company as Trend Setter for Continued Innovation With DXi-Series Deduplication

SAN JOSE, CA —  08/14/13 — Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM), a proven global expert in data protection and big data management, today announced it has been listed as a Champion in Info-Tech Research Group’s 2013 Disk Backup Vendor Landscape. Info-Tech recognized the company based on its DXi®-Series deduplication appliances’ rich feature set, ease of scaling and management, and continued innovation in data protection. Quantum was also singled out with a Trend Setter Award, for innovation with upstream deduplication and the DXi V1000 virtual backup appliance, as well as for Dynamic Disk Pools (DDP) technology.

"Quantum delivers on all of the ‘must have’ features for most organizations, and expands on that with simplified management and scalability," noted Chris O’Connor, senior research analyst, Info-Tech. "Its backup software agnostic approach makes it a viable option for organizations of all sizes."

According to Info-Tech, Champions are those vendors that received high scores for most of the evaluation criteria in its vendor survey and offer excellent value. They also have a strong market presence and are usually the trend setters in the industry. Info-Tech highlighted a number of Quantum’s strengths:

  • Quantum’s DXi-Series lineup offers scalable solutions for needs ranging from 1-24 TB usable capacity with the DXi virtual appliances to 330 TB usable capacity with the DXi8500 enterprise system.
  • New DDP technology in the DXi6800 improves on RAID 6 architecture to enable faster drive rebuilds with less performance degradation and on-the-fly disk pool expansion.
  • "Pay-as-you-grow" scalability simplifies the addition of capacity to DXi6800 appliances using a software key, and DXi Accent™ source-side deduplication includes unlimited licenses for upstream data deduplication in the base price.
  • Quantum’s self-encrypting drives enable encryption without a performance penalty.
  • Incorporation of 3 TB drives provides more efficient use of rack space.

"It’s exciting to see Quantum recognized for the second year in a row as an Info-Tech Champion and as a Trend Setter in the backup market," said Robert Clark, senior vice president, Data Protection Group, Quantum. "When we introduced the DXi6800, it immediately set a new standard for performance, value and scalability in deduplication. With the addition of DXi virtual appliances, customers and partners now have the unique flexibility to choose between virtual or purpose-built appliances, depending on their environment. This flexible approach enables partners and service providers to offer their own backup and disaster recovery solutions based on Quantum technology."
