Improving the Efficient Exchange of Geospatial Data through Geosemantic Interoperability

March 14, 2014 By Editor

English Webinar: Tuesday, March 18, 2014 – 1:30-3:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time)

French Webinar: Friday, March 21, 2014 – 1:30-3:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time)

Webinar Overview:

GeoConnections, a national initiative led by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), invites you to learn about how to efficiently and successfully exchange geospatial data through the understanding and implementation of geosemantic interoperability.

Semantics, in the context of geospatial data, refers to the meaning and structure of concepts used to represent various geographic phenomena. Geographic features are often represented differently according to the context in which they are perceived. Geosemantic interoperability provides solutions that solve these differences and ambiguities, and facilitates better communication between people, machines and systems for the sharing of geospatial data.

This GeoConnections webinar will inform you about the concept of geosemantic interoperability, and how it can improve the access, sharing and integration of geospatial data from various sources. Understanding and implementing the principles of geosemantic interoperability offers benefits to improve the exchange of geospatial information within Spatial Data Infrastructures.

You will learn more about:

·         The concept and background of geosemantic interoperability;

·         Principles and benefits of geosemantic interoperability;

·         Technological environments to support geosemantic interoperability;

·         Challenges for implementing geosemantic interoperability; and

·         Upcoming GeoConnections events.
