Latest Toughpad FZ-G1 is powered by Intel® 4th generation processor and optional hot swap battery functionality

Panasonic today announced the new version of its rugged Windows tablet, the Toughpad FZ-G1. The thin, lightweight and yet fully rugged 10.1” Windows 8.1 Pro Update tablet, unveiled at the Enterprise Mobility Exchange in the Netherlands, has been designed to meet the growing demand from businesses for purpose-built tablets that use the latest functionality to improve the productivity of their mobile workforces.

The latest version of the Toughpad FZ-G1 is powered by 4th generation Intel® Core™ technology. With reduced power consumption, the Intel® Core™ i5-4310U vPro™ Processor is faster especially for graphics performance and increase the standard battery life of the device from 8 hours to 10 hours (up to 20 hours with high capacity battery). With the high performing battery option and new optional hot swap battery capabilities, the latest Toughpad FZ-G1 can also offer seamless, uninterrupted 24-hour operation to continuously service mobile workers on shifts.

Industry leading GPS*

In addition, the device is equipped with the latest industry leading GPS* technology to allow mobile workers and field engineers to pin point their work areas and destinations faster and more accurately than ever before. The u-blox 8 module provides compatibility with all major global satellite positioning systems including GPS and GLONASS with faster information access times and never before seen accuracy for commercial organisations.

Faster data transfer

Data communications are improved with the latest Wireless LAN 802.11ac technology that radically improves data transfer times.

Gloved touchscreen capabilities

The new Toughpad FZ-G1 is also now suitable for workers that need to operate touchscreen tablets with gloves. The device uses the latest IPSa Panel technology providing a new level of viewing quality for tablet users working outside with its 800cd/m² brightness.

Now equipped with the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro Update operating system, business customers can take advantage of the latest improvements in user functionality and the enterprise benefits of the Windows 8.1 Pro Update operating system. However, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional** option is also available. With Microsoft extended support for Windows XP ending last month, the latest Windows 8.1 Pro Update and Windows 7 Professional** versions also offer a smooth migration option for businesses looking to upgrade hardware.

Built to last

The Toughpad family is designed to meet the same durability standards as Panasonic’s Toughbook laptop product line. The fully rugged Toughpad FZ-G1 is certified according to MIL-STD-810G as well as an IP65 ingress protection rating for resistance to dust and water.

The FZ-G1 comes as standard with a high quality HD 720p front web camera and upgraded optional 5MP or 8MP rear camera with triple flash capability for clear document, asset or site photos whatever the light conditions.

Windows and customisable application keys on the front of the device assist workers in jumping to key apps and tools by just pressing one button.

Built for flexibility

Using its Flexible Configuration Ports, the device can be configured exactly for the needs of the business, offering USB 2.0, Micro SDXC, True Serial port, LAN Connector, GPS, Barcode Reader and integrated smartcard reader optional. USB 3.0, Bluetooth® 4.0, HDMI and Wireless LAN capabilities are standard.

To help field workers stay in touch with the office, the FZ-G1 has a dual external antenna connector to allow vehicle mounted devices to connect to a roof antenna boosting connection capabilities in remote areas.

The latest version of the Toughpad FZ-G1 goes on sale in Europe from June 2014. The device will be available from Panasonic official distributors, Premium Partners, ISV Partners and Registered Partners at an estimated street price of £1,604 + VAT for the standard model.
