Yes indeed, I’m a bit of a storm freak and I have a slight addiction for following storm related news, maps, and visualizations (particularly tornado and hurricanes). Historical hurricane data is amazing to mashup and there’s been some really cool maps and visualizations over the years. IDV Solutions has done a really cool job in a recent blog post (thanks for the tip @JohnNelsonIDV) showing off historical hurricane tracks over the past 150+ years. Using the NOAA historical hurricane tracks data, IDV has used a nifty Polar projection to display storm intensity data that paint a pretty interesting picture of storm structure and highlight the void near the equator where hurricanes cannot pass over – see more on the IDV blog HERE
