BlackRock Buys Ethereum 7x Faster Than Bitcoin in 2025, Finbold Research Finds

September 4, 2025 By GISuser

Finbold research has revealed that BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has accumulated Ethereum at a pace seven times faster than Bitcoin in 2025, according to fresh data sourced from Arkham Intel.

On-chain analysis shows BlackRock increased its Ethereum holdings by +252.55% year-to-date, compared with a +33.44% increase in Bitcoin. In dollar terms, the firm’s ETH exposure grew from $3.59 billion on January 1, 2025, to $16.58 billion by September 2, 2025, an addition of $12.99 billion. Over the same period, Bitcoin holdings rose from $51.16 billion to $79.86 billion, an increase of $28.69 billion.

This marks a decisive reweighting in BlackRock’s crypto strategy. Ethereum now accounts for 17.2% of its tracked portfolio, up from just 6.6% at the start of the year.

Jordan Major, Chief Editor at Finbold, commented:

“Ethereum’s institutional moment is happening in real time. The fact that BlackRock has accelerated ETH accumulation seven times faster than Bitcoin this year is a powerful signal. It reflects not only growing confidence in Ethereum’s long-term role as the backbone of decentralized finance, but also the broadening appetite of institutional allocators beyond a Bitcoin-only thesis.”

Diana Paluteder, Head of Content at Finbold, added:

“Our job at Finbold is to surface these shifts early with data-backed clarity. BlackRock’s Ethereum strategy is structural reweighting. For investors watching the next phase of institutional adoption, this is the kind of development that could redefine crypto’s hierarchy.”

The findings are based on Arkham Intel wallet cluster analysis, with Finbold research comparing snapshots of BlackRock’s tracked crypto holdings between January 1, 2025 and September 2, 2025.
