Want to Cancel Ziggo TV? How to Switch to IPTV Without Losing Your Favourite Channels (2026)

November 7, 2026 By GISuser

For a lot of households in the Netherlands, the TV part of the Ziggo bill is the part that gets harder to justify every year. If you want to cancel Ziggo TV, you probably aren’t trying to give up television. You want your channels and your Sunday football for less money.

In 2026 that is quite doable. Ziggo lets you drop TV and keep its internet, and IPTV can take over the channels on the TV you already own. Below: the notice period, what to do with the Mediabox, what you actually save, and a switch plan built so you aren’t left with a black screen.

Cancel Ziggo TV, Keep Ziggo Internet

Most people who want to cancel Ziggo don’t need to leave Ziggo at all. The cancellation form asks “Wat wil je opzeggen?” (what do you want to cancel?) and gives four choices: your whole package, Internet, TV, or other services. Pick TV and your internet keeps running.

That matters, because IPTV runs over your internet, and Ziggo’s connection handles it fine. Ziggo sells Internet Only at four speeds. These are its list prices per month on 26 October 2026, without promotions:

– 200 Mbit/s: €41.95

– 500 Mbit/s: €48.95

– 1 Gbit/s: €54.95

– 2 Gbit/s: €59.95

Timing decides what leaving costs. Ziggo’s notice period is usually one month. Once your minimum term has passed, the contract runs on indefinitely and you can change or cancel it monthly. If you end a subscription inside the minimum term, Ziggo charges 50% of the remaining amount up to the end of that term, in one go, on your final bill.

Removing only TV is a change rather than a full cancellation, and Ziggo doesn’t publish what that costs mid-contract. Ask before you confirm, and check in Mijn Ziggo (your online customer account) what happens to any combination discount once TV is gone.

What You Need Before You Switch

IPTV sends TV channels over your internet connection instead of the cable. You need enough bandwidth, a device that runs an IPTV app, and a subscription that supplies the channels.

Start with the subscription, because it decides which channels you get. In Dutch, buying IPTV is IPTV kopen, and it’s worth comparing a few on price, channel list and support hours before you pick one. The provider sends you login details, either as an M3U link or as Xtream Codes, and you type those into an app. The app is only the player; the subscription delivers the channels.

Bandwidth is the easy part. IPTV Thuis, for example, advises at least 20 Mbps for HD and 50 Mbps for 4K. Ziggo’s smallest Internet Only tier is 200 Mbit/s, comfortably above that, though it’s still worth testing on the TV you’ll actually watch while the rest of the house is online.

For the device, start with what is already in your living room. Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Philips and Sony can run IPTV apps, but check that your exact model supports the player you want. If it doesn’t, a Fire TV Stick, an Android TV box or an Apple TV plugs into a free HDMI port. For the app itself, IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate and IBO Player Pro are common picks. Use a network cable for the main TV if you can.

How to Keep Your Channels and Live Sport

Before you compare anything, write down the channels and replay features you actually use. That list is what the new service has to match.

A good Dutch IPTV service covers the core line-up. The channel list of IPTV Thuis names NPO 1, 2 and 3, RTL 4, 5, 7, 8 and Z, SBS6, SBS9, Net5, Veronica and regional channels. For sport it lists ESPN 1 to 4 for the Eredivisie, Viaplay for Formula 1 and the Premier League, and Eurosport 1 and 2. In total it advertises more than 41,000 live channels and over 160,000 films and series in Full HD and 4K.

Then there’s replay. Ziggo GO gives Ziggo customers up to seven days of catch-up. On the IPTV side, look for a programme guide (EPG) plus catch-up; IPTV Thuis offers EPG with seven days of catch-up on many channels, as long as your app supports it.

Plan length and screens matter more than the plan name. An IPTV abonnement from IPTV Thuis is prepaid for the period you choose and doesn’t renew automatically, and the standard plan streams on one screen at a time. If you want to watch on more than one screen at the same moment, choose a multi-screen plan.

Ziggo Sport Totaal is a separate case. Ziggo sells it, but so do KPN, Odido, Delta and others. Check their subscription requirements and price before you count on it as your replacement.

On the legal side, keep it simple. IPTV as a technology is legal; the legal question is about who holds the rights to the content. So pick a transparent provider, with clear prices, written refund terms, real support hours and an honest channel list.

Compare the Costs Before You Cancel Ziggo

Here is how the bills compare. The table uses Ziggo’s list prices on 26 October 2026, without promotions, and the 12-month price of IPTV Thuis, which is a one-off €69.99 (about €5.83 a month).

Setup Per month Per year
Ziggo Internet 200 Mbit/s & TV Start €58.40 €700.80
Ziggo Internet Only 200 Mbit/s €41.95 €503.40
Internet Only 200 Mbit/s + 12-month IPTV plan about €47.78 €573.39

At these list prices the yearly difference is €127.41, before the weeks of overlap and any other switching costs. At 1 Gbit/s the TV part costs the same €16.45 a month: €71.40 for Internet & TV Start against €54.95 for Internet Only. There is also a 2026 detail: when Ziggo added ESPN 2 to 4 this year, internet and TV customers paid €2.50 a month extra, while internet-only customers did not.

Three things can eat into that saving:

  1. An early exit. Ending a subscription inside the minimum term costs 50% of what’s left. With six months to go on a €58.40 bundle, that is half of €350.40, or €175.20. For a TV-only change, get the price from Ziggo first. Waiting until the minimum term ends is often the cheapest move.
  2. Equipment you forget to send back. Ziggo can charge up to €119 for a Mediabox Next and up to €85 for a Next Mini. The real amount depends on how long you had it, but returning it on time costs nothing.
  3. A lost combination discount, which can disappear when the bundle changes. Check before you confirm.

A Step-by-Step Switch Plan With No Gap in TV

An IPTV provider is not an internet provider, so Ziggo’s overstapservice (the switching service where a new internet provider cancels the old one) doesn’t apply here. Nobody cancels Ziggo TV on your behalf, so you do it yourself. The trick is to have the new service running and tested before your confirmed Ziggo TV end date.

  1. Find your end date. Look up your minimum term in Mijn Ziggo. If it ends within a few months, waiting may be cheaper than paying to leave early.
  2. Start IPTV first. Set up your new service while Ziggo TV still works. IPTV Thuis sells a trial month for €14.99 (30 days, non-refundable) if you want to test before committing; check that the trial doesn’t run out before Ziggo TV ends, or move to a full plan in time. Activation usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Test it properly. Watch on every TV in the house for a week, including a live match on a busy evening. Check the programme guide and catch-up.
  4. Cancel only TV. Use the online form and choose TV, call 088 121 28 12 (Monday to Friday 8:00 to 20:00, Saturday 9:00 to 18:00), or send a registered letter. Online requests take about a week to process, and notice is usually one month. Plan around the end date Ziggo confirms.
  5. Return the Mediabox. Ziggo sends a return box, but any sturdy box works. Ship it free within 14 days after the change or cancellation, via a PostNL point, and ask for proof of shipment. The smartcard or CI+ module does not have to go back.
  6. Keep the modem. Your internet stays, so the modem stays connected. Only TV equipment leaves the house.

Yes, you pay for both for a few weeks. That overlap is the point: Ziggo TV only stops after the new setup has survived a few real evenings in your house.

FAQ

How quickly can I cancel Ziggo?

Ziggo’s notice period is usually one month, depending on your subscription. The online cancellation form takes about a week to process; you can also cancel by phone or by registered letter. Outside the minimum term, the subscription stops one month after you cancel.

What does it cost to cancel Ziggo early?

If you end your subscription inside the minimum term, Ziggo charges 50% of what you would still have paid until the term ends, billed once on your final invoice. After the minimum term, cancelling is free with one month’s notice.

What does Ziggo internet cost without TV?

Ziggo’s Internet Only list prices run from €41.95 a month for 200 Mbit/s to €59.95 for 2 Gbit/s. Internet Only has a minimum term of one or two years, after which you can cancel monthly.

What happens to my Ziggo email address?

After a full cancellation, you can’t keep your Ziggo email address, but Ziggo gives you six more months of access. Move your accounts to a new address in that window. This applies when you leave Ziggo completely, not when you only drop TV.

Can I watch TV without cable in the Netherlands?

Yes. With a decent internet connection you can watch live TV through an app on a smart TV, a streaming stick or a phone. That is how IPTV works, and it replaces the coax cable and the Mediabox with a login and an app.

Do I have to return my Ziggo smartcard?

No. Ziggo asks for the Mediabox Next or Next Mini back, but a smartcard or CI+ module does not need to be returned. Send the box within 14 days after the change or cancellation to avoid a charge.

Before You Make the Call

You can cancel Ziggo TV, keep the internet you already rely on, and watch your channels and sport through an app. Cancel TV only after Ziggo has confirmed your new internet price and your TV end date, and after the new service has handled the channels you watch most.
