A Disappointing but Occasionally Thoughtful Stay at The Biltmore Mayfair

May 28, 2026 By GISuser

My recent one-night stay at The Biltmore Mayfair was booked to celebrate a friend’s birthday, with expectations set quite high given the property’s reputation and pricing. While there were a few considerate gestures that stood out, the overall experience felt inconsistent and fell short of the standard expected from a hotel of this positioning.

Service at Cafe Biltmore Fell Short of Expectations

We began our visit with a lunchtime drink at Café Biltmore. Unfortunately, the service here immediately felt disorganised. The bar staff needed three separate attempts to correctly take our order, which created unnecessary delays and a sense of inefficiency. Even simple details were overlooked, such as the absence of coasters on the table. While minor on their own, these details matter in shaping a polished guest experience, and they were noticeably lacking.

Breakfast Service Was the Low Point

Breakfast was, without question, the weakest part of the stay. We arrived at 9:50am, well before the 10:30am closing time, yet it was evident that service was already being wound down. Buffet burners had been switched off, leaving items such as mushrooms and tomatoes cold, while sausages were only lukewarm.

The quality of the cooked-to-order items also did not meet expectations. A freshly requested omelette arrived dry and overcooked, and the tea service was delayed, adding to the sense of poor coordination in the dining area. Overall, breakfast felt rushed and poorly managed, particularly for guests arriving within the advertised service window.

Room Experience: Nice Touches but Overstated “Upgrade”

The twin room itself was described as an upgrade, though it appeared to be the room originally booked. That said, there were some positive aspects. Housekeeping had been completed properly, towels were refreshed, and turn-down service was provided.

As part of the stay, a small birthday cake was left for my friend, which was a genuinely thoughtful gesture and added a personal touch to the occasion. We also received a bowl of fruit as part of an American Express benefit, which was a welcome addition.

However, there were also oversights. Used tea cups from earlier in the stay had not been cleaned or replaced, which detracted from the otherwise polished presentation the hotel aims to project.

Final Thoughts

While there were moments of care and attention—particularly the birthday surprise and elements of housekeeping—the overall experience at The Biltmore Mayfair felt inconsistent.

The main issue throughout the stay was service execution. From the café to breakfast and even in-room attention to detail, there appeared to be a lack of coordination and follow-through. With stronger training and clearer operational oversight, the hotel could significantly improve the guest experience.

As it stands, the stay did not reflect the expectations set by the property’s branding or pricing, leaving a mixed impression overall.
