5 Common Manicure Myths Debunked

August 28, 2024 By GISuser

Manicures are one of the most common beauty treatments out there, but that means that there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding them. Here are some of the most common manicure myths that you should keep an eye out for. By clearing up these wrongful assumptions, you’ll be able to walk into your next appointment with a better understanding of what you’re really getting into.

Manicures are Only Done to Make Your Hands Look Good

After each manicure session, you can rest assured that you’ll be walking out with a beautiful and fresh coat of nail polish that’ll undoubtedly help your nails look their best, but this isn’t the only benefit that manicures have to offer. In fact, there are actually a good number of health benefits of manicures that you might not be aware of. Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • More Protected Nails: That layer of nail polish does more than just make your nails pop. In fact, nail polish serves as an extra layer of protection that shields your nails against daily wear and tear, helping them become healthier in the long run.
  • Improved Blood Circulation: Manicures often include massages, which can help boost your blood flow. This means that your nails receive more nutrients and oxygen, which can lead to healthier nails.
  • Stress Relief and Relaxation: There’s no denying that a manicure can help you unwind and let go of any stress or tension you might’ve been feeling. A manicure session can be the perfect way to look after your mental health and well-being.

Manicures are Only For Your Nails

While your nails definitely do pop after your manicure, this beauty treatment actually shows some love to the skin of your hands as well. Nail technicians will often exfoliate the skin with a gentle scrub before treating you to a relaxing massage that incorporates various lotions, butters, and creams. As much as you may be looking at the beautiful layer of polish on your nails, make sure to take the time to enjoy your incredibly smooth and moisturized skin as well.

Manicures Have to Be Done in a Salon

Think back to every salon you’ve ever visited, and you might realize that every single one of them offered a manicure treatment. However, this doesn’t mean that you can only get manicures in beauty salons.

You actually have more options to choose from than you might think. You can go down the DIY manicure route and treat yourself to some pampering, or you can call an at-home manicure service and get the spa experience delivered to your doorstep. If you want to see a list of services that you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home, then check it out here.

Manicures are All the Same

Contrary to popular belief, there are actually a few different types of manicures that you can choose from, with each type varying in either technique or nail polish type. Here are some manicure types that you can choose from:

  • Gel Polish: This type of manicure uses gel nail polish, which is more durable and longer-lasting than regular nail polish. It’s also cured under a UV lamp to promote much stronger bonds between the polish and the nail and create a more damage-resistant shield over your nail.
  • French Manicure: French manicures are easily recognized for the classic yet understated look of a nude base and a crisp white tip. This type of manicure also requires your nails to be shaped in a certain way to accentuate the white tip.
  • Classic Manicure: This may be the type of manicure that you often associate with the treatment. A classic manicure goes through all the necessary steps like nail trimming and shaping before adding on regular nail polish, which is thinner and thus needs to be applied in layers.

Manicures Always Come with Color

No, you don’t always need to have colored nail polish applied to your nails. Manicures actually consist of a few different steps. Your nail technician will often start by soaking your nails before trimming and shaping your nails and cuticles. Then, he or she will work on a few different products to promote the health of your skin before finally applying a coat of polish. You can choose to completely forego the nail polish or opt for a clear coat instead.

These are some of the most common manicure myths and misconceptions that you should steer clear of. By being aware of these, you’ll be able to walk into your next manicure appointment and fully enjoy all the benefits that your manicure has to offer.
