5 things to consider when having your vehicle transported

June 13, 2022 By GISuser

The topic of auto transport is quite contentious, not so much because of the service itself, but because there a lot of things that can go wrong during and prior to the transport job itself. There are several things to consider, according to the experts over at USTrans.com, and today we’ll be discuss what to be careful about when having your vehicle transported.

5 common sense things everyone should know

The things that we are talking about today are commonly know in the industry, but if this is your first time having your vehicle transported by a carrier, this guide will be a nice addition. There are also some tips on how to save yourself some headache so read until the end.

  1. Consider the time of the year

The time of the year during which you choose to have your vehicle transported, can be a deciding factors in a number of ways. For one, the peak seasons are summer, during which a lot of people pay for the same service, this might make it a bit more expensive than during other times of year.

It can also affect the delivery time due to snow conditions during the winter, and it can make it dangerous for the vehicle during the spring when hale does occur unless it’s in an enclosed, box trailer.

2. Choose a trailer type according to your car

There are generally two types of vehicles according to weather protection – open trailers and enclosed transport trailers, or box trailers. The difference in protection will be shown in the end price of the service since enclosed transport is far more expensive than open ones.

However, enclosed is far safer and better for high value vehicles like an Aston Martin, or a Ferrari, which you’d do wisely to want to conceal, lest they draw attention

3. Get the contact information of the carrier

Getting to know the carrier is also a good idea, since this will provide you with enough comfort, knowing that the company you’ve chosen is experienced. Getting the contact information of the driver will let you get updates on the delivery date and time, which are vital for the end of the trip, however, communicating with your driver is also important for the pickup – make your experience more convenient and safe.

4. Pick a good pickup point

Transport trailers are long and hard to maneuver in narrow streets, like cul-de-sacs and neighborhoods, so even if you’re having your vehicle picked up from your home city or town, it’s best to choose a more convenient spot for the driver.

It has to have enough space for the vehicle to be loaded and for the truck and trailer to maneuver properly. Unless you choose a single trailer truck, it will be best for all parties to choose somewhere with access, preferably a large parking lot with an even pavement.

5. Prepare the vehicle

Preparing the vehicle for transport is important for the convenience of the pickup and delivery. Such preparations involve putting gas in the tank, making sure the vehicle rolls streets and breaks and all personal belongings must be removed or kept in a locked box in the trunk.
