Prioritizing the Planet: Effective Steps to Make Your Business More Eco-Friendly

September 13, 2021 By GISuser

If you’re the owner of a small business, you might think that its environmental impact is minor. But people who buy your products don’t see it this way. We face an environmental crisis, and customers are starting to vote for “go green” more and more. All businesses, regardless of their shapes, must analyze consumer’s behavior and beliefs because people learn more about the climate change and what effects might have in the future. Thus, they are changing their buying habits, as well.

A survey that has been made in the USA by the service Sendle, about 56% of respondents believe that climate change has somehow a fault regarding their buying habits. Another 70% of respondents said that they’re ready to make some changes and buy more sustainable products in 2021.

Sustainability is an important matter when it comes to businesses of all shapes, and with at least 80% respondents saying that it’s extremely important to them, why not make your business eco-friendlier at some point?

  • %56 of consumers thinks about changing their buying habits, so they can reduce environmental impact
  • Another 70% would be willing to spend more on brands that are sustainable

Believe it or not, clients become more adapted to the climate change, and they believe that shopping with sustainable brands will reduce environmental impact. So, clearly, it’s good for the planet, but also, for the sake of your business to implement waste reduction programs. With this information in your head, start identifying the areas in your business where you might do some changes and make it more sustainable.

Each business has its own accuracies, so it won’t be effective if you follow the same steps as your competitors. Here are some ways to make your small business more sustainable.

Provide remote work

Since the pandemic started, most people moved their jobs online. There’s no need for people to be in a physical office, so remote work has been taken place around the world for the majority of businesses. Now, employees have the flexibility to reduce their time traveling to work. This is absolutely great for the environment, as there are fewer cars in the traffic, which results in less carbon dioxide released in the air.

This might seem like a small change, but it has great benefits. It reduces traffic and industries’ overall carbon footprint. So, with less people in the office, large companies can save hundreds of thousands of dollars which are usually spent on lighting, stocking, heating in the workplace, and so on.

Provide public transport benefits

When employees need to go to the office, they either travel by car, buss, train, etc. In fact, public transport is the greenest method to go to work. Companies should encourage employees to take the bus when they come to work, or any other public transport option. In fact, businesses can provide employees public transit commuter benefits that can help the environment.

How about using sustainable products?

As a company owner, you must be willing to invest in purchasing sustainable products. Products like a printer paper and cleaning products can be very harmful for the environment due to the processes that go into producing them. Instead, companies can use balers, as these are specially made for businesses with large amounts of plastic or general waste.

Offices generally use toilet paper, printer paper, and so on, but these can be labeled and made from pre-consumer waste. Recycling the products, you use in your business is crucial, as this help reduce overall world waste. Starting from cleaning products, to toilet paper, you should reduce anything that doesn’t contributes to the well-being of the environment.

Second hand? Why not?

Creating an office for your business doesn’t mean that you should pay thousands of dollars for brand-new furniture. It takes a lot of materials, especially raw materials to create those office tables, desks, chairs, couches, and so on. Businesses can go green if they use second hand materials instead of buying all those beautiful materials to fill their offices. Choosing recycled furniture is not a bad or embarrassing thing! On the contrary, you will have a positive impact on your employees, clients, and competitors. Plus, vintage furniture is made out of a lot more durable materials, rather than the overpriced pieces of furniture on the market nowadays.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

It is the best possible way to keep waste out of landfills. So, the first rule is to never send it there! Whenever possible, please make sure to reuse everything. Instead of throwing the boxes, make sure you recycle them properly. Also, encourage your employees to use both sides of the papers when printing. If reducing isn’t possible, recycling is the best option available for companies to go greener. The cost of materials and goods continues to rise, and starting to recycle makes good financial sense to your business. Click and learn more about sustainability in your business.

Also, the cost of sending everything to the field is also rising, and if you don’t do so, you might face penalties. You can save money and make your business more successful. Your business can become extremely popular if you reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. In fact, businesses are now facing legal obligations regarding their waste. So, adopting better recycling behaviors is crucial nowadays. It will make you cope better with existing regulations, enabling you to be better prepared for any legislation.

How to save money in your business? By using better waste management techniques, such as:

  • Reducing costs for managing and handling waste
  • Reduce the amount of landfill tax
  • Spend less on buying goods and materials

Clients, employees, and potential investors can become more aware of the environmental responsibility and take more action so they don’t end up with their businesses’ profitability and reputation lower than ever. Remember, reducing, reusing, recycling, and overall rechanging your waste habits in the workplace is significantly important. Find your nearest waste management company and start reduce business waste right away!
