9 Benefits of Becoming a Social Worker

June 9, 2021 By Editor

Social workers’ goal is to enhance overall well-being and help meet communities and people’s basic and complex needs. Social workers work with many different people, particularly focusing on the vulnerable, oppressed, and impoverished.

During this pandemic, social/humanitarian workers have collaborated with healthcare professionals to serve patients in medical institutes. Social workers can trace the history of this discipline back to the 19th century in the Victorian era. It is one of the most respected fields today. Certain stigmas have been associated with social work. It’s accused of a stressful and frustrating career. Some students are hesitant about choosing it as their major. So, here we’ll talk facts about social work by highlighting its positive aspects and urging more students to pursue career-building options in this field.

Millennials pursue careers with higher job satisfaction rates; what’s more satisfying than a vocation is your job to help people! Despite challenges and uncertainties, social workers maintain a good reputation for being well-stable and contented individuals. Sometimes we can meet students as social workers. It is also a good opportunity for them to prove themselves. It is necessary to succeed everywhere. Nowadays we have some sources that can help to have more time for social work, students can just pay for homework help. Since they realize that their duties have contributed to making a better world, they can look back and feel proud of what they’ve done when the day ends. This fulfillment encourages more people to join this career.

  • 1. Observing diversity

This career takes you to work with different people from various backgrounds. A social worker deals with folks from several races, ethnicities, cultures, genders, and sexual orientations. It allows you to develop respect for diversity and tolerance for people belonging to alien civilizations. You never know what the next day will bring! Thus, this profession will keep you prepared to meet any challenge. Furthermore, it’ll continue adding to your real-world experience.

  • 2. A versatile field

Don’t assume that government-run social service agencies are the only places for social workers. A social worker may also work in non-traditional settings besides schools, hospitals, and nonprofits. Some alternative careers for social workers include vocations, e.g., a health educator, a probation officer, or a mental health counselor. This versatility makes social work a lucrative profession for the younger generation since they can choose the range of responsibilities they wish to have.

  • 3. Working with kids

Some aspects of social work lead you to work with younger victims of abuse/neglect. These children often belong to rough households or torn-apart families. You collaborate with your colleagues and domestic assault lawyers to save these children from permanent emotional damage. Similarly, when agencies are suspicious of a family, the social worker must look for the signs of abuse/neglect. You rescue these kids and create a better future for them. Thus, a career in social work demands that you stay vigilant.

  • 4. Job Satisfaction

Millennials pursue careers with higher job satisfaction rates; what’s more satisfying than a vocation is your job to help people! Despite challenges and uncertainties, social workers maintain a good reputation for being well-stable and contented individuals. Since they realize that their duties have contributed to making a better world, they can look back and feel proud of what they’ve done when the day ends. This fulfillment encourages more people to join this career.

  • 5. Self-improvement

Job satisfaction leads to self-improvement among social workers. Engaging with a diverse group of human beings hones your verbal/non-verbal communication skills. When you advocate for the poor, you’re inherently empowering yourself. The obstacles you overcome and the challenges you face eventually transform you into a better version of yourself. And not many professions offer you self-improvement opportunities after all, nor do they allow you to examine your values.

  • 6. Growth options

A social worker’s education doesn’t stop once he/she lands a job somewhere. Acquiring a bachelor’s degree in this discipline is just the beginning. Since this department has a huge potential for growth and advancement, you can always earn an MSW after pursuing a BSW or even go for a doctorate in social work. With higher academic qualifications, your chances at a better salary keep increasing. If you wish to initiate private practice or become an entrepreneur, social work is your route!

  • 7. A sought-after career

The world needs more nurses, teachers, and social workers. This pandemic has negatively influenced the nation’s mental health. Also, experts have observed the prevalence of mental disorders and substance abuse cases during the coronavirus pandemic. So, these two disciplines will most likely prosper among all subfields within the profession of social work. With the need to incorporate more social workers into the system accelerating, this career has become lucrative for students.

  • 8. Not a corporate job

Social workers don’t always have nine-to-five jobs where they deal with paperwork all day long. Not everyone’s cut out for a corporate job! So, if you’re seeking alternative employment opportunities in your life, social work seems like the ideal choice. This career will give you the autonomy and independence you were looking for as a student. You’re allowed to manage your clients the way you seem proper. Also, you’ll probably spend most of your time outside the office meeting people.

  • 9. Easy earning

Experts have estimated that social work will continue growing as a profession in this decade. So, BLS predicts a 13% growth in this discipline with around 90,000 more jobs added in a few years. Another myth states that social workers don’t make much when they make over $50,000 a year on average, as per BLS. Similarly, well-experienced social workers may earn even $70,000 annually. People who enter this discipline without formal education do find a hard time making a decent dime.

Conclusion

Do you wish to establish a career by helping people? Social workers have the right education and skills to assist fellow beings tangled in different situations. Statistics reveal that social workers deliver 60% of mental health treatment in the United States. So, we can conclude by saying that social work seems like an emotionally taxing yet amazingly fulfilling profession. Surely, the work environment isn’t less challenging since helping people in emergencies may sometimes get disturbing. But, when it ends, you go home satisfied with your altruistic occupation. In short, this career doesn’t focus much on what you will receive; instead, it focuses on how willing you are to help humanity.
