New to mobile games? Fun titles and tips that will help you get started

April 29, 2021 By Editor

It looks like we’ll be cooped up in our homes for days to come. Of course, it’s tough keeping yourself in good spirits while being confined within the walls of your home. You’re done with your favorite shows on TV and Netflix. You’ve solved every puzzle in your home.

What do you do now?

Try mobile gaming! Yes, mobile games have come to aid people who struggle to find what to do while staying indoors. However, not all the games on offer are worth your time and money. We’ve picked some for you we feel are pretty good for rookies. Again, some mistakes you make may ruin your enjoyment. So read on as we share with you three games we liked and tell you what you should avoid for an entertaining gaming experience.

Some mobile games for you to try

Thisissand

While this game is not necessarily action-packed, it is perfect for these stressful times. It could be compared to a simple relaxation app that revolves around pouring different-colored sand onto a canvas. Thus, it is actually all that is: a virtual sand art platform. However, try it if you like to get artistic and enjoy a peaceful minute or two.

Bird Alone

Bird Alone resembles a traditional virtual pet. However, your parrot will turn out to be more loveable with each visit to the game. Again, this game is not necessarily action-focused, but it is a fun and silly game to try. According to players, Bird Alone is not only entertaining but heartbreaking. After all, it is about a bird looking for friends. However, let’s not spoil anything and allow you to experience everything yourself.

Oceanhorn

Care for a more involved adventure? Oceanhorn is precisely what you have been looking for. As the hero of the game, you will get to explore the cute world, conquer quests, and combat hostile creatures you encounter.

Power Hover

Power Hover is a mobile game that lets you use a hoverboard and travel across the map. However, instead of relentlessly exploring, you have a purpose. Apparently, a villain has stolen batteries powering the city. Your task is to catch the culprit and return those batteries where they belong. In addition to its interesting premise, the game’s soundtrack is also surprisingly pleasant.

Stay Clear of Unknown Apps

Always avoid downloading unknown apps from third-party sources. Doing so is virtually inviting malware into your device. You’ll notice some apps seeking permissions from you before the download. Make it a point to check these permissions. Some gaming apps often seek permission to access your emails or contacts, which is unnecessary. These are the apps you should be wary of.

Don’t Download Unknown Games

Following up on what we’ve mentioned above, here’s our next piece of advice. Avoid downloading unknown just as you should stay away from unknown apps. Here’s what to avoid:

  • Never give any game accessibility permissions as these are needed only to read out loud information from the phone. These are meant to help people with disabilities. Games never need these permissions.
  • Device admin apps give remote control to your device. These permissions might be necessary for system administrators in your office if your phone is used for work. Don’t ever make the mistake of granting these permissions for games.

Avoid Clicking on Ads

You are at an advanced stage of your game, and up pops an ad. It’s very irritating, and you want to get rid of it. But did you consider the possibility that your smartphone might be infected with adware? Specialists emphasize that your mobile phone is a perfect device for adware to thrive.

  • Right-click on your mouse and close the pop-ups from the system tray to avoid clicking on the pop-ups to close them
  • Regularly update your operating system
  • Strengthen the security settings on your browser
  • Stay away from suspicious websites

Staying safe is cardinal to having an enjoyable gaming experience. Before picking up a game, it’s important to tighten the security of your gaming device. Installing antivirus on your mobile is the first step towards beefing up the security; however, it might not suffice alone. It’s important to go a step further and install a Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN establishes an encrypted network between your device and the server, which facilitates secure downloading and use of mobile games. Tools like Atlas VPN also offer protection from websites suspected of distributing malware. In other words, it informs you about accessing sites that might attempt to trick you.
