Despite the challenges over the last year, there has been a record number of people setting up their own business in a post-Covid innovation boom.
According to analysis by the Centre for Entrepreneurs, nearly half a million companies were launched in the UK between March and September in 2020, an increase of 44,500 compared to the same period in 2019.
Geovation, an Ordnance Survey initiative in association with HM Land Registry, has revealed the next cohort of GeoTech and PropTech start-ups joining their Accelerator Programme. The programme has been designed to provide start-ups with specialist support to help grow their businesses, while developing innovative and sustainable solutions that can deliver significant impact and will aid in the recovery of the economy.
The GeoTech businesses accepted onto the Programme are:
- BKwai – A smart construction monitoring company which provides insight for engineers so that infrastructure works smarter, faster and safer
- Go Positive Group – A solar technology company which makes managing solar technologies a positive experience
- Pelation – A cycle technology start-up which captures useable spatial road incident data to feed into infrastructure planning
The PropTech businesses accepted onto the Programme are:
- DigiHome – A homeowner app bringing convenience and control to managing their home
- NOCO Energy – Location-based intelligence for the renewable energy industry
- SearchLand – A map-based property and planning data web app for SME developers, planners architects and investors to make informed property and land decisions

Over the next twelve months, the start-ups will receive a range of support alongside the Geovation team, including geospatial expertise from Ordnance Survey (OS), property expertise from HM Land Registry, and mentorship on business proposals and investor relationships.
As well as financial assistance with up to £20,000 in grant funding, access to Hub space at Geovation London and at partner sites, the Accelerator Programme also provides access to a dedicated software development team.
