5 Surprising Business Benefits To Encourage Remote Working

January 18, 2021 By GISuser

Even before this pandemic, up to 40% of the U.S had been working remotely. Thanks to technology, the last decade saw a surge of 9.8% in the number of people working remotely.

To clarify, remote working does not necessarily mean working from home. It also includes working from a coffee shop, library, or even in a subway. The introduction of modern technology such as videoconferencing, progress checking software, cloud services, and collaboration platforms have made it possible to connect people anywhere, any time. Moreover, it is also an excellent way to cut operational costs.

Remote working is so feasible and productive that once started; people rarely want to go back to a regimented office job. Not only for the employees, but remote working also opens new horizons of development for employers too. They can now hire and retain top talent to give top competition in their field and save business costs.

Moving forward, here’s an in-depth look at the benefits of remote working can bring to your business in the short and long-run.

Less time spent commuting

Arguably one of the most significant benefits that remote working brings is that employees don’t have to spend long hectic hours on an unpleasant commute. It helps reduce travel fatigue and increases productivity in actual work hours.

According to a report, the employees’ wellbeing and health can reduce absenteeism and productivity. When you come into the office with the fatigue of a long train ride or peak hour traffic, you need at least time to regain your energy. On the other hand, while working from home, employees start fresh with a cup of coffee on their table. They can also maintain and adjust their work environment according to their personality. All of this ensures optimal human productivity.

Working from remote areas also reduces the need for providing employees with traveling allowances. Employers can now spend more on giving their employees a happy bonus or updating technology to increase work efficiency. The result is always a well-motivated, advanced, healthier, and more satisfied workforce to run your business.

Improved employee retention

One of the biggest challenges for small company owners is losing valuable resources. Big companies attract talent with handsome salaries. All multinational companies follow the rule of full and partial flexibility of time and place for their employees to retain them in their business.

As a business owner, you must consider your employees’ ease to have them on board even if you offer slightly less remuneration. Any business that cannot compete in monetary compensation with the large companies can have this edge if used wisely.

Provide your employees with a virtual office and see your company grow by leaps and bounds. You do not have to worry about efficiency too. You can easily monitor their productivity and efficiency using multiple software, apps, and tools. The outdated practice of boring physical meetings and keeping the workers tied to their desks is becoming less prevalent in the modern world. Who wouldn’t prefer to even work on their laptop from the comfort of their home or favorite bar? It provides the employees the freedom they have always crave. Moreover, this also boosts their ability and entrepreneurial spirit.

A virtual office is especially great for parents who need to fulfill their children’s responsibilities while doing their work. Let their spark enlighten your organization and ensure that you attract talent that is keen to work with your business because they feel comfortable.

Access to a broader pool of applicants

The millennial effect is one of the fueling agents behind the popularity of the idea of remote working. Now technology has improved to the extent that you can communicate from any part of the world, brick and mortar setups have substantially lost significance. Sharing work-related tasks are all just a matter of a few clicks. The introduction of 3D holographic has given life to the concept of virtual presence. Now, you can expect attentiveness at the same level as the actual presence in the office.

The younger generation prefers multi-tasking and looks for ease. Now, priorities have changed from a high salary demand to a more comfortable and personalized work environment. A study was conducted recently in multiple companies from small scales to international levels. When employees were asked about their job expectations and ideal work condition, 80% of them mentioned working remotely with good work hour flexibility. And not surprisingly, 92% of the employees preferring remote job were between 25 to 35 years of age. 40% of them chose the facility of work from home than a pay rise.

The research concluded that offering benefits such as working remotely can help attract young, energetic, and highly skillful blood to the company. This talent can give the company the kick it needs in a highly competitive business environment.

Lower costs

When it comes to a business or company’s operational expenses, you have to admit that space is expensive. You have to look into things like maintenance costs amenities, and most importantly, utility costs.

Working remotely cuts a big chunk of this cost altogether. With fewer employees coming into work, a big office space with towering operational expenses becomes redundant. Alternatively, shared hot-desking and coworking spaces become a more viable option for smaller employee headcounts.

Make better use of technology

We have the world summed up in our hands. So, why not use it for a better cause? Remote working is one of the practical and most widely used applications of today’s modern technology. With fast Wi-Fi connections, cloud computing, smartphones, laptops, project management software, instant messaging facilities, we can be anywhere, anytime. You can quickly contact, collaborate, and communicate with all your colleagues instantly and even call a meeting in a few seconds. As a result, business communication and decision-making can be more timely and efficient.

Final word

Throughout the world, employees appreciate the idea of working from anywhere they please. The world is a vast pool of talent, and remote working is an effective way to reap the benefits without any geographic obstacles. Moreover, it also helps you reduce costs and invest the same money for meaningful business activities. If you are a business owner struggling to make ends meet, set your employees free from the tiresome exercise of showing up to a physical space every day and let their productivity flourish.
