World Oceans Week and Mapping “Hope Spots”

June 10, 2020 By GISuser

As part of World Oceans Week, on Monday, June 8, Esri is teamed up with Napa, Calif.-based Mission Blue to map “Hope Spots” to preserve protected marine areas. Using Esri’s ArcGIS, Mission Blue is able to identify areas to inspire community engagement and engage policymakers in conservation efforts.

Esri is able to put Mission Blue’s Founder Dr. Sylvia Earle’s dynamic vision on the map. As a marine scientist, Dr. Sylvia Earle is helping conservationists, ocean enthusiasts and policy makers visualize a global network of marine areas in need of protection – Hope Spots – to preserve and restore the ocean.

The ArcGIS StoryMap includes photos, videos, documents, a map and multimedia featuring critical marine ecosystems. To view a growing group of nearly 75 Hope Spots worldwide, please visit www.mission-blue.org/hope-spots. To see a curated collection of StoryMaps, click here.
