Own a Convenience Store? Here are Five Ways to Attract Customers

April 20, 2020 By GISuser

Whether you have been a convenience store owner for a long time or are just getting started, your customers are the key to your success. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get people interested in your store when there are so many other options available to them. In more congested city areas, there may be a shop on every corner, making it even more difficult to stand out from the competition. By implementing some basic practices, you will find that more people are interested in what you have to offer.

Clean and Organized Selection

Keeping your store clean is an absolute must. There are a few reasons for this. First, you will be less likely to come under some type of lawsuit that stems from a dirty or untidy shop. Secondly, a clean and highly organized selection of merchandise is a lot more attractive to your clients. They will come into your shop and will feel comfortable buying from you, especially if food items are involved.

Niche Items

Niche items can bring in one or two specific crowds within the local area. For example, those of you in Oklahoma who want to learn more about getting your medical marijuana card online will find that the process is easier than ever before. For this reason, you may want to offer some medical cannabis products to bring in a specific flow of clientele. The same can be said about the types of food or beverage products that you offer that may be different from anything else within the local area.

Friendly Customer Service

Customer service is essential for keeping your clients coming back for more. If you find that you get short with customers and don’t take criticism well, it is crucial that you work on your attitude and your direct client skills. If you work with each patron coming into your shop, they’ll be less likely to become frustrated when something goes wrong. In turn, they will become a repeat customer and will be more likely to come back again in the future.

Convenient Hours

Part of the point of having a convenience store is to have around-the-clock hours. Some shops choose to stay open 24-hours a day, which means that you’ll need to rely on staff to work when you’re not there. Others will find that opening first thing in the morning and closing late at night works best for their schedule. It’s critical that you find a time frame that works for both you and the people coming to you for supplies.

Indoor Public Bathroom

Sure, you don’t want everyone passing by on the street to come in and use the restroom, but they may be more likely to buy things from you if they come into the actual store. Be sure to keep this bathroom clean at all times and allow people coming in to use it freely. In doing so, they will be more likely to come out and purchase items, which can help with increased revenue and a greater client flow.
