Topcon introduces real-time reality capture solution

GTL-1000 introduced to North America at SPAR 3D

Topcon Positioning Group introduces a new generation of scanning robotic total stations — the GTL-1000

LIVERMORE, Calif. – May 17, 2019 – Topcon Positioning Group announces its new real-time reality capture solution for building construction verification will be demonstrated at the SPAR 3D Expo and Conference — the GTL-1000.

The new real-time verification solution includes a compact scanner integrated with a fully featured robotic total station. Combined with ClearEdge3D Verity, the system is designed to offer a powerful instrument and new standard that speeds up construction verification workflows from what traditionally took days to now only hours to complete.

“Topcon is excited to introduce technology to transform the building construction process, increase productivity and minimize mistakes, rework and cost overruns— shown for the first time to the North American market,” said Ray Kerwin, director of global product planning.

The robotic scanning solution includes digital layout capabilities of a single operator controlled total station combined with 3D laser scanner. The integration of the instrument and Verity software creates a complete package ideal for construction verification using 3D modeling techniques, resulting in full-dome scanning to quickly capture duct work, columns, beams, girders, flaps, penetrations and structural steel.

“Operators can quickly conduct a full-dome 360-degree scan, process in MAGNET Collage, and compare the point cloud against a design model in Verity. So, quality assurance is improved with a clear visual indication of construction quality heat maps to minimize the effects of mistakes before they become expensive problems,” said Kerwin.

Nick Salmons, principal laser scanning surveyor at Balfour Beatty, said, “The new Topcon robotic scanning solution will increase productivity on site by accelerating the construction process and identifying design challenges more efficiently than traditional methods.

“We are delighted to have collaborated with Topcon over the last twelve months to trial this new tool, which will significantly benefit the industry as a whole; reducing cost and program duration, for both clients and contractors alike.”

Other new Topcon solutions include a high-performance robotic total station for vertical construction, mass data collaboration software updates and flight planning software for the Topcon rotary-wing aerial mass data capture solution.

Topcon will be exhibiting in booth 411 at the May 21-23, 2019 conference in Anaheim, California.
