Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure Chosen by Salt Lake Area Public Safety Agencies for Integrated 911 Dispatching and Records Management

October 17, 2016 By GISuser

More than 40 communities will benefit from Hexagon’s dispatching, records, mobile and analytics solutions

Huntsville, Alabama, October 17, 2016 – The municipal and county police, fire and emergency medical agencies within Salt Lake County, Utah, selected a suite of mission-critical software from Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure to consolidate regional public safety IT and operations for the first time. The public safety agencies serving 1.2 million residents of the Salt Lake Valley will benefit from unified dispatching, records management, mobile and analytics systems that will help improve data sharing, multi-agency collaboration and overall public safety.

The agencies to be served include Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC), Salt Lake City 911 (SLC911), Bluffdale Fire Department, Cottonwood Heights Police Department, Draper Police Department, Murray City Police and Fire Departments, Salt Lake City Police and Fire Departments, Sandy Police and Fire Departments, South Jordan Police and Fire Departments, South Salt Lake City Police and Fire Departments, Unified Police and Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Unified Fire Authority, West Jordan City Police and Fire Departments and West Valley Police and Fire Departments. When fully implemented, the Salt Lake Valley deployment will be one of Hexagon’s largest multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional systems in the U.S.

“Adopting the same computer-aided dispatching software system by the two 911 call answering centers serving all city, town and county police and fire will greatly enhance the ability of all agencies to share information and better serve our citizens in need of emergency services,” said VECC Executive Director John Inch Morgan.

The public safety agencies have been working to develop a comprehensive, functionally consolidated public safety system for the past 20 years. In 2014, all public safety agencies in Salt Lake County, including the two 911 communications centers, came together through inter-local agreements to secure shared computer-aided dispatch, records management and mobile systems. The result of this extensive and exhaustive process led to the procurement of a suite of products and services from Hexagon that will decrease response times, improve coordination between agencies, save lives and enhance the safety of first responders.

The agencies selected Hexagon through a competitive proposal process because of its ability to deliver interoperable, scalable and reliable systems across multiple agencies. The Hexagon software will not only enable the Salt Lake Valley to achieve greater efficiencies at its 911 centers, but will also permit agencies to balance workload and ensure back-up of dispatching functions if needed. The records management and mobile software will further extend capabilities to ensure critical, real-time information is available to first responders, investigators and other personnel whenever and wherever needed.

The specific Hexagon software includes Intergraph® Computer-Aided Dispatch (I/CAD), a suite of industry-leading incident management software; Intergraph Mobile for Public Safety and Intergraph Mobile Responder, which extend dispatching capabilities to laptops and mobile devices; Intergraph InPursuit WebRMS, a cloud-deployable, records management system; and Intergraph Business Intelligence for Public Safety, which helps agencies mine, monitor and analyze massive amounts of public safety data for better resource planning and deployment.

“In deploying Hexagon’s public safety systems, Salt Lake Valley agencies can benefit from unified systems for true multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional operations,” said Hank DiPietro, vice president and general manager of U.S. public safety, Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure. “We’re honored that the police and fire agencies and the two public safety answering points have put their trust in our systems to help improve public safety.”

The global leader in public safety and security solutions, Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure helps protect 1 in 12 people worldwide. By improving the quality, accuracy and availability of critical information, Hexagon’s integrated solutions increase public safety and security performance and productivity, while reducing the total cost of ownership for mission-critical IT investments.
