CompeGPS and Ordnance Survey team up to produce the ‘OS Range of GPS Units’

July 11, 2016 By Editor

Ordnance Survey (OS) and CompeGPS are pleased to announce a new partnership to release a range of outdoor activity GPS units.
The exciting move is being made ahead of the leading international trade fair, the OutDoor Show in Friedrichshafen, where the new GPS units will be unveiled for the first time.

As leading brands in their respective fields, CompeGPS and OS are working together to offer customers a range of GPS units that reflect OS’s values and world renowned detailed mapping data, while combining CompeGPS’s leading technologies and design.

The ‘OS Range’ is designed to appeal to a wide range of outdoor customers who want to #GetOutside and require highly accurate and good value off-kerb navigation. The new range has been developed to enhance the outdoor experience for walkers, runners and cyclists, with the devices also providing activity feedback on distance, time, altitude and heart rate.

Manufactured in Spain, the initial range will comprise of two handheld units ideal for walking and hiking, one hybrid unit for walking and cycling, one cycling specific unit and a run and fitness watch. All of the devices, excluding the watch, will feature OS 1:25 000 mapping as standard.

Managing Director for CompeGPS Santiago Twose says: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Ordnance Survey as the first step in our long term strategic partner plan. CompeGPS is well known for its superior mapping functions in our GPS units and software, and to have the chance to work with Ordnance Survey, one of the oldest and certainly best known cartographic agencies, allows us to bring cutting edge technology and first class mapping to the end user.”

Alastair Tinker from Ordnance Survey comments: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for OS. We are renowned for our mapping and the new range of GPS enables us to provide customers with the ultimate range of off-kerb navigation products – whether paper, on-line, mobile or now ruggedized devices.

“It was important to partner with a brand that shared not only our values and love of the outdoors, but had the capability and desire to develop a range of products that enable us to offer something different to the market. We believe that CompeGPS is that brand, with its pedigree and technologies that help people get outside.”

The new OS Range will be available via the online OS Shop and retail outlets from late November 2016.

To find out more about the OS Range please visit Hall A6 Stand 105 at OutDoor 2016, Friedrichshafen. Further information will be added to the OS website ahead of the product launch in late 2016
