Technology That Will Enhance Your Outdoor Experience

February 16, 2016 By GISuser

You never know what will happen on the trail. That’s why you need the best tech for your safety and survival. From scaling glaciers to a weekend day hike, you need tools that will enhance your experience with nature.

Here are some great outdoor tech items to consider for your next adventure:

Sony Digital Recording Binoculars

Get a close-up look at wildlife with a pair of high-tech binoculars. The Sony Digital Recording Binoculars can digitally record HD video and allow direct 3D viewing through EVF. The Active Mode setting on the binoculars provides stability as you follow your favorite bird in flight. The binoculars are equipped with a NP-FV70 rechargeable battery, which lets you capture up to two hours and 35 minutes of 2D recording. These binoculars are highly durable — splashproof and dustproof — which makes them ideal for treks into nature.

Iridium Satellite Phone

Full immersion into the great outdoors feels great, though you may want to not want to put yourself completely off the grid. In case of emergency, carry a satellite phone with you while you explore. Check out Roadpost’s subscriptions for Iridium sat phones. The phones come with a spare battery and accessories for charging.

Luci Outdoor

This portable, lightweight lantern is built for adventure. The Luci Outdoor is waterproof, collapsible and powered by the sun. The solar panel charges fully with seven hours of sunlight exposure and will last for up to 12 hours. The lantern has 10 LED lights, weighs only 4.4 ounces and is easy to transport in your backpack.

Powertraveller Powermonkey Extreme

Charge any integral devices or electronics through your own, portable solar panels. The Powermonkey Extreme can charge 5V and 12V devices, cameras, tablets, smartphones, GPS and e-readers. This solar charging system is waterproof and shock-resistant, which makes it perfect for the outdoors. The clam-shell design offers 3-watt max output and a full recharge within 18-22 hours in optimum light conditions. The Powermonkey Extreme can use solar energy to simultaneously charge its own battery, while also charging your device.

Earl Survival Tablet

Earl is a tablet designed for the most extreme outdoor situations. Earl helps you orient yourself with your surroundings when you are off the grid. Its GPS chipset has motion, force and orientation sensors that provide you with a precise reading of your location, direction and elevation. Link up with everytrail.com on Earl and access over 300,000 trails. Earl can alert you of any unexpected weather conditions, with its internal weather sensors that will provide information on temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. If you need a little music, while you’re off the grid you can access Earl’s built-in AM/FM/SW/LW radio tuner.
