Envitia wins important contract to supply UK Hydrographic Office DMGIC with FDM and FDB extensions

January 29, 2016 By GISuser

For immediate release: January 2016 Ref: UPS1262

  • Upgrade the generic harmonised information model of defence maritime data.
  • Enable exploitation of the upgraded model and data, and allow delivery of products and services to a wide range of defence customers from a common set of data.

Envitia today announced the UKHO Defence Maritime Geospatial Intelligence Centre has awarded the company a significant contract for further work on UKHO’s management and handling of maritime data. The Feature Data Modelling and Feature Data Base (FDM / FDB) project will enable the UKHO to continue the development of its defence maritime information model, helping to improve the quality of its outputs and services, and enhancing the currency of its products to all their defence users.

Envitia is using its information modelling expertise and maritime domain knowledge to extend the DMGICs harmonised Feature Data Model to cater for defence oceanographic information and deliver updated modelling artefacts. The contract includes the development of enhancements to the DMGICs experimentation environment which will enable them to capitalise on advanced research they are undertaking, future-proofing data, services and delivery.

The FDM / FDB Further Development contract represents a significant component of the DMGICs ongoing programme to strategically align the organisation to address future challenges and support them in continuing to deliver their world class products and services, matching these to the future needs of their customers and partners in defence.

Alan Crisp, Public Sector Lead, Envitia said: “We are delighted to be awarded this contract, which reflects the expertise Envitia has in information modelling and handling maritime data. We are looking forward to working with UKHO and extending this important defence capability.”
