Panasonic Upgrades 20” Toughpad 4K Performance Model

November 24, 2015 By GISuser

Tablet improvements target professionals in visual-intensive fields creating and managing ultra-high definition (UHD) content

November 24, 2015 (Newark, NJ) – Panasonic, an industry leader in exceptionally reliable and innovative mobile computers, today announcedupgrades to the Performance version of its Toughpad® 4K tablet, also known as the FZ-Y1D. The upgraded Toughpad 4K increases device performance while adding features to improve functionality for professionals across a variety of visual-intensive fields, such as photography, videography, computer-aided design (CAD), high-end retail and healthcare.

Increased Functionality

The popularity of ultra-high definition and 4K content is at an all-time high. According to recent research, the global UHD TV market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 45% from 2015-2019.[1]

This increased interest in 4K content has created a desire for more features and power in 4K devices. Driven by this customer demand, the Toughpad 4K Performance model now features an HDMI 2.0 input that supports up to Digital Cinema 4K (4090 x 2160, 60 fps), allowing videographers and photographers to plug cameras directly into the device so its 3840 x 2560 LCD can serve as a viewfinder as well as a workstation, creating a highly portable platform for real-time viewing, evaluation and editing of work at the point of capture. This capability is enabled through a proprietary Panasonic software solution.

Content Protection

The Toughpad 4K also supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) 2.2 for DRM (Digital Rights Management) to protect content by creating a secure connection between the tablet and source.

Enhanced Performance

To meet the horsepower needs of UHD content management, production and editing, the Toughpad 4K Performance model now features an Intel® Core™ i7-5600U vPro™ processor and an AMD FirePro™ M5100 graphics chip, providing highly mobile professionals in visual fields with the ultimate productivity and workflow enhancement tool.

Toughpad 4K (FZ-Y1D) Key Updates:

  • High-Power CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-5600U vPro™ processor (4MB cache, 2.6GHz up to 3.2GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology)
  • Input: HDMI 2.0 input
  • Content Protection: HDCP 2.2
