ESRIUC Notes – LiDAR is Hot Again at UC

August 7, 2015 By GISuser

The 2015 esriuc, much like the previous year or two, proved to me that users are very interested in LiDAR.

There were many opportunities for attendees to get schooled on LiDAR data and supporting technologies and solutions. LiDAR was the focus of numerous presentations, educational sessions, and software demos. Business partners the likes of Lizardtech, Exelis, Leica, Orbit GT and others weren’t the only ones hyping LiDAR support, Esri was also schooling their users on the many ways that Esri supports and encourages the use of  LiDAR data.
ArcGIS has a number of built in processing tools like buffering, feature identification, polygon creation etc… to support the management of vegetation and in particular, ROW activities. Esri is also coming out with a solution for corridor management providing time aware feature selection tools that use imagery and LiDAR to support vegetation analysis, corridor exaction, and industry compliance fulfillment.
Users working with LiDAR will also benefit from the added support of ArcGIS online to access additional, complementary image products such as Landsat data, NAIP imagery, and elevation image data and services.
Esri product support for LiDAR continues to evolve and when used in combination with other data and imagery  the resulting 3D models and analysis will wow the end user and support better modeling for a richer design experience. ArcGIS Pro in combination with LiDAR data and supporting tools should be a huge plus for users in a number of sectors including, public safety, natural resources, surveying, utilities, and facilities management.
