Leica Geosystems Announces Collaboration with Autodesk

June 3, 2015 By GISuser

Alliance between the two industry pioneers streamlines construction workflows and makes premier solutions for reality capture and Building Information Modeling-to-field layout more accessible.

Leica Geosystems, Inc., the pioneer of measurement technologies, today announced a collaboration with Autodesk Inc., a leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software, to provide wider access to premier reality-capture and BIM-to-field layout solutions for professionals involved in laser scanning, building construction layout and related markets. The collaboration creates new opportunities for professionals working with Autodesk software to leverage the high-accuracy data from Leica Geosystems’ sensors directly within popular Autodesk authoring tools. Multiple technology integrations are being explored as both companies look for ways to create synergies that will benefit their joint customers.

“These developments mark the beginning of an important alliance between two technology leaders in the AEC market, bringing together each company’s respective innovation and expertise in hardware and software,” said Juergen Dold, president of Hexagon Geosystems. “Customers and resellers will benefit from having access to a broader range of options for reality-capture and field layout at a time when the construction industry is growing and adopting 3D solutions. This collaboration removes significant barriers for professionals seeking to implement streamlined workflows based on the highest-quality, most reliable data and empowers them to use the best tools for each application.”

“Leica Geosystems is a recognized leader in quality measurement solutions,” said Amar Hanspal, Senior Vice President of Autodesk’s IPG Product Group. “By pairing these solutions with Autodesk’s software packages for CAD and BIM, customers will have easy access to accurate data at every stage of construction, which provides benefits for all stakeholders. It’s an exciting time to be in the AEC market.”
