TORONTO – March 25, 2015 – Esri Canada, the country’s leading provider of enterprise geographic information system (GIS) solutions, has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for a third consecutive year.
Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business award programs that recognize Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums, the Best Managed award recognizes Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million for sustained growth, financial performance, management practices and the efforts of the entire organization.
“Esri Canada continues to demonstrate market leadership with vision and dedication to performance, innovation and quality. This award is a tribute to the companies’ strong leadership, talented workforce and strong corporate values,” explained John Hughes, National Leader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and Managing Partner, Growth Enterprises with Deloitte, a national sponsor of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.
“This recognition is testament to the tremendous efforts of our employees all across Canada who bring creativity, innovation and professionalism to their jobs every day,” said Alex Miller, president, Esri Canada. “As with any success, ours wouldn’t be possible without the support and contribution of many others outside our company. We’d like to extend our thanks to our partners and especially to our customers who continue to motivate us to do our best.”
Product Advancements
Leveraging the ArcGIS platform, Esri Canada continues to deliver solutions that help organizations operate more efficiently using geographically referenced information. With the latest release of ArcGIS (10.3), the vision of Web GIS is realized by empowering customers to use information anywhere and on any device. It includes new apps and enhancements that continue to revolutionize the science of geography and GIS and enable users to more readily share their work throughout their organizations.
In addition, Esri Canada recently introduced GeoSketch and Assessment Analyst Mobile extensions to its Assessment Analyst technology suite. These two new extensions give property appraisers advanced sketching capabilities and the ability to access desktop assessment functions in the field when an on-premises inspection is required.
National Basemap of Canada
Through the Esri Canada Community Maps Program, the company is working with government agencies to create a high quality, national basemap of Canada derived from authoritative sources. Since the program was launched in 2010, over 247 communities have been added to the map representing 60 per cent of the country’s population.
Supporting the next generation of GIS professionals
Esri Canada recently announced the launch of its GIS Centres of Excellence initiative, which is aimed at encouraging innovation in GIS research and promoting teaching excellence in spatial data management and analysis in higher education across Canada. The Centres will increase the opportunity for inter-institutional collaboration across the country and help expand spatial thinking and GIS software use beyond the traditional field of geography into fields that include planning, sub-fields of engineering, earth sciences and environmental management, computer science, medicine, business and other areas in social sciences including history, sociology and criminology, among others. The company also continues to promote geographic education and careers through its GIS Scholarships and Associate GIS Professional programs.
Philanthropy
Esri Canada is committed to supporting philanthropic and environmental sustainability initiatives. Esri Canada partnered with award-winning filmmaker, Andrew Nisker, in building an application, the Gum Shoe Application, which takes an in-depth look at the world’s second largest form of litter and how it threatens our health and damages the environment. Esri Canada performed analysis of more than 7,100 km of Toronto’s sidewalks to find more than 2,000 tons of gum on the city’s streets. Additionally, the company has been named to Chapter 150, a group of visionary business leaders helping to connect the Trans Canada Trail and all Canadians. The company donated $1 million in technology and services to build the Trans Canada Trail Explore the Trail app, which allows the public to view the Trail online as it gets completed for Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
