Dr. Ronald Sega, Colorado State University Professor and Former Astronaut, and Gretchen West, DroneDeploy VP — 15th Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition To Take Place February 23-25 in Denver

February 11, 2015 (Portland, Maine, USA) – Dr. Ronald M. Sega, Woodward Professor of Systems Engineering and Director of Graduate Studies in Systems Engineering at Colorado State University, and Gretchen West, Vice President, Business Development and Regulatory Affairs at DroneDeploy, will deliver Keynote Addresses at International LiDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF). The 15th annual technical conference and exhibition will take place February 23-25, 2015 in Denver.

Dr. Sega’s Keynote is entitled “A Systems Approach to Remote Sensing and Gaining Understanding in Various Applications.” In it, he will explore the evolution of individual systems and the increasing opportunities to gain insight and value when viewed from an integrated systems approach. Dr. Sega served as Vice President and Enterprise Executive for Energy and the Environment at both Colorado State University (CSU) and The Ohio State University (OSU). He holds a B.S. in math and physics from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, an M.S. in physics from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado. A former astronaut, he flew aboard Space Shuttles Discovery (1994) and Atlantis (1996). His full bio and abstract can be found here.  “We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Sega to ILMF,” said Lisa Murray, ILMF Director. “The integrated systems approach is a critical topic for remote sensing professionals.”

Ms. West’s Keynote “UAS and the Internet of Things” will examine the future of the UAS market in terms of technology advances, growth potential, and regulatory affairs.  Previously, Ms. West was AUVSI’s Executive Vice President, overseeing AUVSI’s government relations and advocacy efforts for the unmanned systems industry. View her bio and full abstract here.  Ms. West is an advocate and trailblazer in the evolving UAS market,” said Ms.  Murray. “Her expertise and insights will help get ILMF attendees up to speed about the latest UAS information in terms of technology, opportunity and regulatory affairs.”

The ILMF conference program will feature over 60 industry experts presenting best practices and case studies for cutting-edge technologies such as Geiger-mode LiDAR, Focal Plane Array (FPA) LiDAR, Mobile Mapping Systems (MMS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.  “The ILMF 2015 Advisory Board was instrumental in vetting conference abstracts and will moderate conference sessions,” said Linda McLaughlin, ILMF Conference Program Manager. “They bring to the table rich and varied expertise about the key topics at this year’s event.”

There’s an entire workshop dedicated to UAVs/UAS on Monday February 23 from 9:30-12:15. Panelists include UAV/UAS experts from Aerial Data Systems, Airware, Altavian, Drone Analyst, DroneDeploy, Leica/Aibotix Phoenix Aerial, Solutions, RIEGL, senseFly, Topcon, Trimble/Gatewing, Velodyne and University of Colorado, Denver.
