Maryland Hunters Use AccessDNR Mobile App for Real Time Harvest Reporting

December 16, 2014 By GISuser

ANNAPOLIS, Md.– With Maryland’s hunting season now in full swing, thousands of hunters are taking along the AccessDNR mobile app from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The app provides the state’s hunters, anglers, boaters and park-goers with all of the latest outdoor recreation information, news and alerts right at their fingertips. More than 15,000 Marylanders have downloaded the award-winning AccessDNR mobile app since its launch earlier this year. This free resource is available for Apple and Android devices through their app stores, and can also be accessed online here.

“From hunting locations and calendars, to real time harvest reporting, the app provides hunters all the information they need right where they are.”

The most recent upgrade includes a variety of features for hunters to use while on the go. The real-time harvest reporting process with DNR now has fewer steps, and the integrated Trophy Case allows hunters to view their confirmation number and upload a photo of their harvest to share with others via social media or email. County harvest land codes are easily accessed during the reporting process and the sunrise/sunset times are automatically determined based on the users location.

“The feedback from hunters using the AccessDNR mobile app has been great,” said DNR Wildlife and Heritage Director Paul Peditto. “From hunting locations and calendars, to real time harvest reporting, the app provides hunters all the information they need right where they are.”

The AccessDNR app also provides mobile access to information for state park locations, activities and amenities, reservations, trails, boat launch sites, and mobile licensing. The location-based Near Me mapping function displays parks and waterways in radius increments of 10, 25 or 50 miles of the user and includes detailed driving directions.

The AccessDNR mobile app features:

  • Location-based maps and directions to State-owned parks, wildlife areas, trails, boat launches and water access sites
  • Maryland State Park activities and amenities by location
  • Hunting season information by date
  • Real-time game harvest reporting directly to DNR
  • Trophy Case photo sharing through social media
  • Location-based sunrise/sunset and tide updates
  • Maryland fish and shellfish identifier
  • Hunting, fishing and boating regulation guides
  • Breaking DNR news and alerts, including hunting calendar and regulation

The AccessDNR mobile app was developed at no charge for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources by NIC Maryland, through the self-funded eGovernment services contract with the State Department of Information Technology (DoIT).
