Sygic introduces First Navigation App to Reduce Road Rage

July 29, 2014 By Editor

Sygic’s GPS Navigation BlackBox lets drivers record what’s happening on the road ahead while navigating safely

Bratislava, Slovakia – July 29, 2014 – With a new update to its GPS navigation application, Sygic has enabled drivers to provide essential evidence in the occasion of a road rage incident and share videos of aggressive drivers on social media.

‘Crash for cash’ crimes are becoming increasingly prevalent on today’s roads, and dash cams are one of the most important car accessories. Road rage, the overtaking of trucks and unexpected crossings of wild animals are but a few of the unexpected issues that can cause a disastrous crash on the road. Dash cam technology is one of the most dependable aids in pinpointing the perpetrator of vehicular accidents and the most reliable in providing evidence.

Sygic is working to reduce crime on the roads and clarify vehicular crimes and tragedies. Therefore, Sygic has developed the first Navigation App on the market with a black box feature. Sygic BlackBox is available as an in-app purchase for only $10,99 (9,99 €) and can be used simultaneously with Sygic GPS Navigation for iOS.

“I believe many small things make a big difference. By joining all of our 50 million users’ efforts together, we may make this planet a safer place to live. As a parent, I always wish to get my kids home safely and now I am excited I can be a part of a company that makes this world a better place for them,” Sygic CEO Michal Štencl said.

Social media integration allows drivers to instantly share evidence when the unthinkable happens. BlackBox is a way for drivers to protect themselves and their loves ones from being victimized by aggressive drivers or insurance scammers, providing them with evidence when they need it.

Using Sygic’s BlackBox interface is straightforward: drivers can activate the feature with a single touch from the app’s menu, place their smartphone on a car mount and start driving. The application will automatically begin recording a continuous loop with embedded GPS coordinates, current speed, time and date. The user can save 5 minute long videos to the phone gallery. Unlike clunky, single-purpose and often expensive car DVRs with SD-card memory, exporting or uploading a video to the cloud is easy, tamper-proof and does not require any other accessories.

Features of Sygic GPS Navigation include:

  • 3D offline maps that do not require a data connection
  • Voice Guidance in more than 40 languages
  • Spoken Street Names feature for safe and comfortable driving
  • Speed Limit Alerts and Warnings
  • Dynamic Lane Guidance and Junction Views
  • Interactive Map lets users tap on any street or POI for more content
  • BlackBox (in-app purchase)
  • Real-time Traffic information (in-app purchase)
  • Heads-up Display (HUD) for navigation without ever taking eyes off the road (in-app purchase)
  • Premium mobile Speed Camera warnings (in-app purchase)

Unlike other map services, map data in Sygic GPS Navigation is stored on the user’s phone instead of streamed from the Internet. Sygic users don’t need to worry about getting lost in an area with poor reception or running up against their cellular data caps while using GPS navigation. When Sygic’s users are online, they have access to more useful features like real-time traffic and road incident sharing with other drivers.

* With Sygic GPS Navigation you can enjoy FOREVER FREE: offline TomTom maps, POIs, route planning & free map updates. High quality maps from TomTom and other providers are stored on your iPhone or iPad for use without internet connection.

To get the most of the app upgrade to premium and enjoy lifetime 3D maps, turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, lane guidance, speed limit warnings & junction view with lane indicator arrows at complex intersections.
