Esri UC Kicks Off Today in San Diego – Here’s What You Need to Know

July 14, 2014 By Editor

The Esri User Conference, the largest geospatial event in the world, kicks off today at the San Diego Convention Center. More than 16,000 attendees from nearly 100 countries are expected to descend on downtown San Diego for this week-long celebration of mapping and geospatial innovation.

We’ll be sending out a briefing each morning highlighting the most important events and activities each day. Here’s what you need to know about Day One:

·        Esri president Jack Dangermond will take the stage in front of the entire audience to profile advances in geospatial technology and recognize the cutting-edge work of users and partners around the globe.

·        Keynote speakers Dr. Bruce Aylward (World Health Organization) and Dr. Vincent Seaman (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) will explain how mapping technology is eradicating polio in Africa and is playing a key role in combatting global health challenges.

·        Speakers from the City of Minneapolis, Port of Rotterdam, Starbucks, Urban Redevelopment Authority, and others, will show how they’re tackling real-world issues from climate resilience to business profitability with innovative uses of GIS (geographic information systems).

·        Students and professionals interested in geospatial careers can learn about leading certificate and degree programs in the field at the Academic Program Fair, which features representatives from America’s leading universities and colleges.

·        The Map Gallery Opening and Evening Reception, a celebration of hundreds of breath-taking map displays of various shapes and sizes from users worldwide, caps Day One.

Press interested in covering the Esri UC can attend at no cost. Monday evening also features an exclusive press reception with Esri leadership and the winners of Esri’s Climate Resilience App Challenge 2014.
