CREDO Mobile Recognized for Defending Customers’ Rights to Privacy

May 16, 2014 By Editor

CREDO Mobile, a SF-based telecom, received the highest rating possible from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) for defending its customers’ rights to privacy.

EFF released its annual report titled, "Who Has Your Back?" examining the steps 26 online and telecommunications companies have taken to protect user data.

EFF awarded CREDO Mobile a perfect score of 6 out of 6 stars — the highest rating of any telecom on the list. EFF also found in its report that only one telecom in the group (CREDO Mobile) has publicly opposed mass surveillance. Both telecom giants Verizon and AT&T failed to “tell users about government data requests” and “fight for users’ privacy in the courts.” In addition, EFF noted that AT&T does not “require a warrant for content” or “fight for users’ privacy rights in Congress.”

"CREDO Mobile is a proud defender of our customers’ rights to privacy," said Michael Kieschnick, CEO of CREDO Mobile. "Unlike other telecoms, CREDO Mobile takes every step possible to protect our customer’s constitutional rights to privacy and fight illegal surveillance. American consumers deserve no less when it comes to protecting their private data.

"We are honored to be recognized by EFF — a group that has led the fight against illegal surveillance and fiercely defends Americans’ constitutional rights that are under attack."

The Electronic Frontier Foundation awarded CREDO Mobile the highest rating of 6 stars for taking steps to protect user data such as:

  • Requiring a warrant for content
  • Fighting for privacy rights in courts
  • Informing users of government requests
  • Publishing transparency report detailing government requests
  • Pushing Congress to protect users’ privacy
  • Publishing law enforcement guidelines

Last year, CREDO Mobile became the first telecom in the country to release a transparency report detailing the number of government requests it received requesting user data. Read CREDO Mobile’s transparency report here:http://www.credomobile.com/ misc/transparency.aspx
