Company to Develop Technology to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction

RESTON, Va., May 21, 2014 / — Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a national security, health and engineering solutions company, was awarded a task order by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to develop modeling methodology and technology to combat weapons of mass destruction (WMD).


The multiple-award cost-plus fixed-fee task order has a two-year base period of performance with up to three additional years in options. The total task order value awarded is approximately $46 million if all options are exercised. The task order was awarded under the Target Assessment Technologies Office.

The DTRA provides the Department of Defense’s core intellectual, technical and operational support expertise for countering threats posed by weapons of mass destruction and high-yield explosives. Under the contract,Leidos will develop, apply and transition technologies to find, characterize and assess WMD and HDBTs (Hard & Deeply Buried Targets) in support of the combatant commands. Work will include the development and integration of sensor mission planning tools, the development of analytical methodologies, models and tools for characterizing and assessing HDBTs and WMD targets, the development of methodologies and tools for assessing facility vulnerabilities and other technical work related to characterization and assessment of foreign WMD and HDBT development.
