Webinar: Geospatial Metadata: ISO 19115:2003 and the North American Profile

November 21, 2013 By Editor

Webinar Overview:

GeoConnections, a national initiative led by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), invites you to learn more about the geospatial standards that contribute to successful online access, use and sharing of geospatial information. Good metadata is fundamental for the discovery, understanding, access, and use of geographic information for more than two decades. At the same time, the benefits of creating and using standardized have become clear. Metadata standards have been established and elaborated to define common metadata content such as the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM) and ISO 19115:2003, Geographic Information – Metadata. More recently, a North American Profile of metadata (http://nap.geogratis.gc.ca/ metadata/napMetadata-eng.html) has been created jointly by Canada and the United States to meet ISO 19115:2003 and the unique requirements of both countries.

You will learn more about:

·         What metadata is and why it is so important;

·         Current metadata standards;

·         The North American Profile of ISO 19115:2003:

o    Content

o    Best practices

o    Register and codelists

o    XML encoding

o    Multilingual metadata

o    Website and resources

·         Upcoming GeoConnections events.
