The CalGIS webinar series is designed to bring you interesting guest speakers and topics dealing with geospatial issues. Think of these as mini conference sessions.
Guest Speakers for Webinar #3
Scott Gregory is the Assistant Secretary over Geospatial Information Systems for the Technology Agency, and is the Geographic Information Officer (GIO) for the State of California. Scott brings over 18 years of GIS experience from a wide variety of county, federal, private sector, and academic roles.
Peter Meisen – GENI – Topic: Using GIS to Accelerate the Development of Renewable Energy Resources
With the goal of accelerating the use of renewable energies in all nations, GENI’s interns and volunteers use GIS tools to visualize renewable energy potential so policy-makers and renewable energy developers can make more informed choices more quickly. GENI’s President Peter Meisen will show examples from the national perspective and local San Diego scale.
For years the Global Energy Network Institute (GENI) has conducted research on how nations across the globe could become 100% renewable within the decade. This research is available on-line and has been sent to key decision-makers in the effected countries.
GENI promotes the integration of renewable energy resources around the world – specifically the interconnection of electric networks between regions and nations with an emphasis on tapping abundant renewable solar, wind and geothermal resources.
Three years ago GENI opened the World Resources SimCenter, an immersive visualization facility that enables collaborative problem-solving and community engagement, integrating GIS visualizations and other technologies.
Both projects are born from the vision of Buckminster Fuller and have a common mission of accelerating sustainability locally and globally.
Peter was fortunate to have met Buckminster Fuller twice and followed Bucky’s advice to read "Critical Path." This changed his life and inspired him to found the Global Energy Network Institute (aka GENI) to conduct research and education on Bucky’s premier global solution — around the world.
