October 15: Deadline for PANalytical NIR’s Goetz Instrument Support Program

October 9, 2013 By Editor

Innovative proposals submitted by October 15 have a chance to be awarded a FieldSpec 4 portable spectroradiometer to augment research

BOULDER, Colo. – October 8, 2013 – PANalytical NIR, formerly ASD Inc., today reminds graduate students pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in any field of study to submit their application for the Alexander Goetz Instrument Support Program by Tuesday, October 15. Accepted student proposals will be announced in early December 2013.

The students with the most groundbreaking research proposals will be awarded a FieldSpec® 4 Standard-Res spectroradiometer or a FieldSpec HandHeld 2™ spectroradiometer for a specified period of time. Both instruments are known for performance and portability. Students may use the spectroradiometers for a wide range of field research applications, such as hyperspectral image interpretation, image validation and multispectral remote sensing study and analysis.

Proposals do not need to be of immediate practical application or have a guarantee of success. Priority will be given to proposals that creatively bridge multiple disciplines. An interdisciplinary review committee will carefully assess each submission to make final selections.

Applicants must be attending an accredited college or university in any country where Carnet documentation for shipments is accepted, which includes the U.S., Canada and many others. Each recipient is eligible for up to $500 to cover the cost of publication fees (if the resulting paper is accepted for publication in a scientific journal) and/or travel assistance for the presentation of an accepted abstract at a relevant scientific conference. The program organizers also request the participants provide PANalytical with a short summary of their research and results.

“Every year we receive multiple proposals that impress us by expanding on the traditional uses of remote sensing instruments” said Dr. Brian Curtiss, CTO-NIR of PANalytical. “We’ve already seen some interesting proposal submissions for the 2014 program and look forward to seeing what else we receive this final week.”

The program, now in its eighth year, was named for Dr. Alexander Goetz, in recognition of his contribution to the study and advancement of remote sensing applications. Additional information about the program and proposal guidelines is available on the Goetz Instrument Program page.
