Trimble Launches GPS Hunt Topo Map SD Cards for Hunters

September 10, 2013 By Editor

Topo Maps with Private Land Ownership Details Available for 39 States; Runs on iPhone, iPad and Android Devices

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 10, 2013— Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) launched today GPS Hunt Topo Map SD Cards for smartphones and tablets. In addition to statewide topographic maps, the new memory cards feature private land ownership details, including the exact land boundaries, address and assessor’s parcel number (APN). The memory cards are available for 39 states and cover more than 167.2 million private land plots, the most comprehensive topo map and private land ownership coverage available for hunters on smartphones and tablets.

"Hunters need to know whose land they’re on, exactly where the boundaries are, and whether they’re within their legal boundaries for their hunting permits and hunting leases," said Rich Rudow, general manager for Trimble Outdoors. "With our new GPS Hunt Topo Map cards, hunters get valuable recon about land boundaries and they can view the maps off-the-grid without a cell or data signal. Plus, hunters get a GPS app to help them navigate in the field."

The new memory cards work in Android-powered smartphones with a SD/microSD slot. Hunters plug the memory card into their Android device, launch one of the supported Trimble GPS apps, and they are ready to explore huge statewide areas.

The memory cards are also compatible with Apple iPhones and iPads by inserting the SD card into a computer then dragging the map files into Apple iTunes. The map files then sync to the user’s iPhone or iPad and into the supported Trimble GPS apps. Once the maps are loaded onto the device, the maps are viewable without a data or cell connection.

After the maps are installed, hunters can view 15 different zoom levels of full-color topographic maps (1:250K to 1:24K), and 3 super-zoom levels so they can see which side of the fence and whose land they are standing on with great detail. In addition, hunters can overlay map layers like public land boundaries, hunt units and game management units, and updated forest road information where available.

Supported Mobile Apps

The memory cards work with the free and pro versions of Trimble GPS Hunt (iPhone, Android) and Trimble GPS Maps (iPad) apps.

Trimble GPS Hunt, the most downloaded and top grossing hunting GPS app on Android and iPhone, is a navigation app built solely for hunters. The app taps into the smartphone’s GPS to show hunters their GPS location. Hunters can track wildlife, mark waypoints, take trophy photos, see weather reports and privately save their trips to GPSHuntFish.com. When combined with the new GPS Hunt Topo Map SD Cards, the GPS Hunt app turns a smartphone into a full-fledged GPS unit with super-detailed maps that work in remote places without a cell or data connection.

Trimble GPS Maps is designed to plan and organize hunting and fishing trips. Now, users can save large quantities of topo maps and private land information onto their iPad with the new GPS Hunt Topo Map SD cards.

Memory cards with topo maps and private land ownership details are available for the following states and regions: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Mid-Atlantic (NJ, DE, MD and DC), Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, New England  (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI and CT), New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
