When the Mobile Map Matters The BA3 Altus Mobile Mapping Engine is now available for Android

July 19, 2013 By Editor

RALEIGH, N.C., July 18, 2013 — BA3, LLC has announced and released a new version of Altus Mobile Mapping Engine™ for the growing Android smart phone and tablet marketplace. Based on the proven Altus Mapping Engine for iPhone® and iPad®, this native Android version brings a new level of map performance and flexibility to the Android marketplace.

Established in mobile aeronautical flight planning and cockpit navigation applications, the Altus Mapping Engine is a solution to the unique challenges faced by the developers and suppliers of mobile mapping applications.  The Altus Mapping Engine inherently accommodates the large size and multiple types of spatial data, network delivery to the smart phone or tablet and disconnected or cached operation.

Real time information such as weather, radar and location is easily layered with other geospatial data such as aerial photography, terrain, roads, points, markers, lines and existing maps and charts.  Whether the mobile map is worldwide or a small local area, the Altus Mapping Engine provides a highly performant and fluid end user interface.

According to Marshall Brain, President of BA3, LLC, "This is a very important product release for BA3, our customers and the marketplace.  Mobile map providers can now use the same native mapping engine and data for both Apple® and Android mobile devices with identical capability.  The Altus Mapping Engine’s straightforward approach is a very similar Objective C and Java API wrapper around an identical core on both platforms. The primary benefit to our customers is decreased time to market for new apps saving time and money."

Android map providers can start today with a free download of the Altus Mapping Engine for Android from the company’s website.  The Android Software Development Toolkit includes full documentation, tutorials and demonstration applications.
