There’s no arguing that mobile is here to stay and the mobile user HAS to be considered when launching your next web app, service or ?? Some recent stats reveal that very soon there will be more phones in use on the planet than there are people! Get this… Analysts predict that by 2017 more mobile devices will be in use than people on the planet. Some of the latest findings on mobile usage from CCS include:
- 983 million smartphones to be sold in 2013
- Over 6.6 billion mobile phones will be in use by the end of 2017
- Two thirds of the phones in use will be smartphones
- 1.86 billion mobile phones to be shipped in 2013
- Western Europe and North America will see penetration levels approaching saturation point in these markets within three years
- global shipments of smart mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) will increase 2.5 times between 2012 and 2017, to reach 2.1 billion units
- Even dominant operating systems like Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android will face challenges
- sales of 4G devices to grow tenfold between 2012 and 2017
