GeoConnections (www.GeoConnections.NRCan.gc.ca), a national partnership initiative led by Natural Resources Canada, invites you to learn more about the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI), and the policy, legal and administrative issues that impact the access, use and sharing of geospatial information. Since 2010, GeoConnections has researched and developed a series of operational policy resources intended to help Canadian organizations in their interactions with spatial data infrastructures (SDIs) from an operational perspective. These resources encourage organizations to consider issues beyond the technological scope of an SDI, such as licensing, privacy, security, and other business or legal topics. GeoConnections has produced a broad range of practical instruments such as guidelines, best practices, procedures and manuals to help facilitate access to and use of location-based information. GeoConnections is raising awareness about these issues and topics and related resources to encourage widespread adoption and implementation of operational policies within the everyday operations of organizations that publish or use online location-based information.
You will learn about:
§ Geospatial operational policies and the role they play in a spatial data infrastructure
§ GeoConnections’ role and activities developing and promoting geospatial operational policies
§ Featured policy resources developed by GeoConnections since 2010
§ How to find the CGDI Resource Centre
§ Strategies for adoption and implementation of operational policies
§ Upcoming events and opportunities
