Europa Technologies releases new version of global data product suite

May 30, 2013 By Editor

Europa Technologies has today announced the latest version of its market-leading family of global data products.

The 2013.1 release introduces significant improvements including enhanced Places of Interest (POI), ongoing development of high resolution coastlines, an ocean features layer and support for the Korean language

There are updates to international and 1st/2nd level administrative boundaries as well as to time zones with DST for 2013/2014.

Bonus Content includes Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) and global shaded relief (Global Discovery only).

Additionally, the new release delivers thousands of other minor updates and improvements.

Continuing the development programme for localisation, the addition of Korean increases the number of languages supported to 17. Ideal for multi-national organisations, the global product suite is able to support local language views to operation centres worldwide.

Global POI have been enhanced to include major power stations. The importance of these locations was highlighted in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tōhoku, Japan, and the consequential damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

A new layer has also been added to represent over 750 named ocean features, an excellent complement to the bathymetry data introduced into the product suite in 2012.

The United Kingdom and Ireland are the latest countries to enjoy high resolution coastlines and offer a significant scale and accuracy improvement.

The bonus content programme, Expo, has been extended to include Exclusive Economic Zones –seazones prescribed by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea over which a state has special rights involving the exploration and use of marine resources, including energy production from water and wind.

In the premier Global Discovery product, the Expo content also includes an elegant global shaded relief raster for both land and sea areas. The addition of this new layer provides a useful physical dimension to a global map.

The new global release is also available by way of Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) through the award-winning viaEuropa platform. viaEuropa provides access to hosted, high quality cartography as a map tile service that can be easily consumed by desktop, mobile and web applications. A free trial of viaEuropa is available.

Europa Technologies’ founder and director Warren Vick said: “As a cornerstone of our business, we are delighted to announce this first release of our popular global data for 2013. In addition to maintaining existing layers, we have extended the content in our Expo programme. This further demonstrates our commitment to offer the most up-to-date and comprehensive data available."
