Since the last update, Bosch Navigation for the iPhone has won four stars, making it the highest-rated premium navigation system in the App Store. The current update includes a logbook and a fun Eco Trainer. "At a time of rising fuel costs, we have responded to the wishes of our customers, and have worked hard on entertaining eco-driving recommendations exploiting the iPhone’s sensors. We are providing the Eco-Trainer to our existing customers free of charge, not as an in-app", explained Dietmar Meister, Head of Engineering at Bosch SoftTec.

The colored scale of the Eco Trainer is inserted discreetly into the map navigation mode, and will be fun for everyone. Feedback is given here on driving style through color, and is carried over into an eco-score, the value of which is shown graphically in the app. When necessary, the feature can be switched off. The user can playfully change it through eco-icons that provide special notification of driving style.

Automatic recording of the distance driven
Bosch has now also developed a special logbook for its navigation app. It is based on the requirements laid down by the Tax Office, and is integrated into the navigation system. It is available right away as an in-app purchase, and can be bought for £5.49. At the start of every trip that is to be recorded, the driver can enter the current mileage and the purpose of the trip. The Bosch logbook automatically records and saves the distance traveled in each trip. And when someone doesn’t have time to enter the mileage at the beginning of the trip, the app reminds them later of the missing data, so that it can be added at a quiet moment. The user always retains full control, and decides whether every trip, or just some, are to be recorded.

Cooperation with "Where To?"
The new Version 1.6 of the Bosch navigation app now also offers the attractive possibilities of the "Where To?" service. Through a GPS-based search, this app offers all sorts of information about a wide range of destinations in your environment. The information can be transferred directly to the Bosch navigator, allowing the user to drive there.

"In this latest update we have also oriented ourselves around the very helpful feedback we have received from our customers, and that has let us adapt our Navigation even better to what customers want," added Meister.

Version 1.5 achieved best rating in the App Store
Since the comprehensive update of January 2012, the purchasers of the Bosch Navigation have been giving it top marks: the Bosch navigator has been given four of the maximum of five possible points, putting it at least one point above competitors’ applications. A quick look into the iTunes App Store will show this. In addition to the 3-D artMap, the curve warning assistant and the traffic jam information from Inrix, it is above all the integration of the "flinc" car-sharing service that has brought a very positive reaction from users: an intelligent way of saving, finding passengers and sharing fuel costs.

Map material from Navteq is always available when the device is off-line. It covers the United Kingdom and Ireland (“UK&IRE”) as well as the major roads of Europe. Other Bosch products in the App Store include navigation solutions for France, the Iberian peninsula, Italy, the DACH countries, the Benelux countries and Scandinavia.

"Bosch Navigation UK & IRE" is available from the Apple App Store under http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/bosch-navigation-uk-ire/id400203215?mt=8   both for the iPhone and the iPad at a promotional price of 26.99 GBP after which it will revert back to its original price of £44.99; the In-App purchase of the "Logbook" is available for £5.49.
