LBSzone Social Location Report – Accela, TomTom, Trimble, making news

August 29, 2012 By Editor

Once again, another LBSzone location technology newsletter…

Welcome to another mobile, location technology news update from LBSzone, our final update for August. No doubt watching the news and weather this week that it is important to Prepare For The Remainder Of Hurricane Season. This in large part due to NOAA’s prediction that there will be a surge in hurricane activity this year. Of particular interest, two tropical storms have formed in the Atlantic basin prior to hurricane season this year, marking the first time this has happened since 1908. Luckily, hurricane season (June 1 to Nov. 30) has been unexpectedly quiet this year, but it may just be the calm before the storm – see more from NOAA here. Those interested in weather related updates on their smartphone, take note also of the update from weatherbug and the company’s My Storm Tracker providing Personalized, GPS-Enabled, Severe Weather Monitoring and Lightning Distance Notifications. Not weather related, however, battling the storms for media attention, the US election. Just in time for that, the Wall Street Jounal has announced their mobile election app – a dedicated resource for real-time mobile access of the Journal’s campaign coverage – more info on the app HERE. Finally, some of you may be taking in next week’s Insurance Telematics USA 2012 event in Chicago (Sept 5-6). Insurance Telematics USA 2012 will gather the thought leaders and pioneers of the industry to carefully dissect and answer the critical issues that your business is currently facing. Stay informed about the event and get more details HERE
