Large water utility streamlines mobile processes with GIS

February 16, 2012 By Editor

Rockville, MD – Dunea, a large water utility serving southern Holland, completes implementation of the entire Tensing Mobility Platform suite with the addition of Tensing Mobile Workflow, Dispatch and Track & Trace to their existing Tensing Mobile GIS solution.

The complete solution optimizes Dunea’s entire field operations to improve efficiency and productivity in the field. Management of their pipeline network is now streamlined with a free flow of real time information between office and field.

“Mobile workforce management and GIS solutions are invaluable in the utilities industry. Tensing’s suite has resulted in faster and better service for our clients. GIS data and work order information is available to the field worker automatically through the Mobile Workflow application which has allowed us to do away with our paper maps and much of our data entry. Track & Trace allows for effective deployment of field engineer vehicles, for us that means getting a vehicle on location on time and cutting costs and travel time,” says Arjan Molenaar, Project Manager at Dunea.

The integration between Dispatch and Track & Trace gives Dunea a big picture view of their field worker statuses and locations. Deployment of special resources such as fault inspectors and maintenance technicians can be optimized through planning. Tensing Dispatch is also configured to allot a specific time period to complete certain types of work, aiding in the planning process. If those time periods are not met dispatchers are able to adjust the schedule, increasing order throughput.

The Tensing Mobility Platform offers Dunea a wide range of functionality and advantages including an end of day time stamping and trip time keeping, engineer deployment based on distance and skills, real time work order status updates and more. Field technicians immediately receive work orders with historical information about an object or installation on their laptops with the Tensing Mobile Workflow application. Additionally they are guided through the entire work order process step by step, from recording materials usage to reporting failures found during their work.

About Dunea
Dunea provides approximately 1.2 million people in the South-Holland region with drinking water daily. Dunea also manages the environmentally important dunes between Monster and Katwijk.
