European Space Imaging has signed a three-year contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the provision of VHR satellite images to the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) program.
The contract covers the provision of VHR optical data from DigitalGlobe’s satellite constellation consisting of WorldView-1, WorldView-2 and QuickBird. The imagery supports a range of services for monitoring the environment and supporting civil security activities on a European, national and regional level. Especially for GMES emergency services, like SAFER or GMOSAIC, an instant tasking option for VHR optical data is crucial for immediate assessments and can be fully supported throguh EUSI using their local WorldView groundstation and their close connection with the WorldView Global Alliance partner DigitalGlobe.
The contract reserves as an option the provision of WorldView-2 imagery with 50 cm resolution to the Urban Atlas project. The Urban Atlas is providing pan-European comparable land use and land cover data for 305 Large Urban Zones with more than 100.000 inhabitants in Europe. Since February 2011, EUSI successfully collected more than 60% of the total area cloud-free with WorldView-2’s 8-Multispectral Bands.
